Chaperones should accompany their students to Notre Dame for the opening day during which all participants will be welcomed to the Symposium, receive their name tags, students will receive their laptops for the week, log into the applications/platforms they will need for their courses, receive tours of the campus, participate in two introductory workshops, and celebrate our coming together with a dinner on campus.
On this first academic day of the Symposium, we request that both chaperones come to campus again. The schedule will be as follows:
STEM activity with Sergio & Lucia Riley Faculty Room 10:00-11:00
Break
Meet your Match activity Riley Faculty Room & Classrooms 11:10-12:00
Break & Lunch. Check out Squad Challenge 12:00-1:00
Global Classroom Workshop and Q&A Riley 201 1:00-2:00
Free Time to Network or Check on Students 2:00-2:30
Wrap Up Gathering Rose Garden 2:45-3:00
These three days are flexible for our adult visitors. We recognize that you may have work to get done and that you've traveled very far and may want to do some things around Philadelphia on your own, without you students (see our "Around Town" section on the "Hotel, Transportation, & Sightseeing" page!). We recognize that cultural differences and variations in school rules may impact how you spend your days, but please know that we will have enough adults on campus so that you do not have to come to campus each day. If you want to rotate days between you and your partner, that is fine, or if you want to see things in Philadelphia together, that is also fine. On the Zoom call on June 27th, we will have a breakout room of just the adults and Notre Dame can get a sense of your plans/schedules and answer any questions you may have!
We request that all chaperones attend the Symposium on Friday, July 21st. This day will include a gallery walk of student work, our final lunch, and, of course our keynote speaker, Dr. Mae Jemison!
