During the summer of 2019, I embarked on an academic exchange through Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia. While there, I stayed with Miyu, a student at Notre Dame Seishin (Japan) and shadowed Vanessa, a student at St. Nicholas (Singapore). After exploring many aspects of Asian culture, academics, and food, I felt as if a new side of the world had opened for my exploration and appreciation. As a final for this exchange, I analyzed how the Singapore legal system -- which is perceived as being tough on citizens and foreigners -- affects the quality of life of its people (under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Now, I am in frequent contact with my friends from Japan and Singapore and am content with the global connections I have made. You can also view my daily blog for an in-depth view of my trip!
In the summer of 2020, I was poised to attend a leadership conference at a sister school in Taiwan. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the program was canceled. With this, I am still sharing the program since it is a major aspect of my growth as a Global Scholar. Attached is the program application, which helps illustrate what I planned to do with the culture I would have experienced in Taiwan. For the program, I went through an application process that included an interview. Out of a plethora of candidates, only a classmate and myself were selected to attend the exchange. Although it was canceled, I would have created a final project comparing and analyzing international education (from the USA, England, Singapore, Japan, and Taiwan.)
