February 14th – February 15th, St. Louis University School of Medicine | St. Louis, MO
The 2025 LMSA Midwest Regional Conference was an enriching experience for our newly established LMSA+ chapter at Notre Dame, highlighting the critical role of spaces that empower Latino students pursuing careers in medicine. Our chapter received a warm welcome from the Midwest E-Board and medical students, which further underscored the importance of community and professional development.
Throughout the conference, we engaged in a variety of hands-on workshops that were especially impactful. Participants had the opportunity to practice essential medical skills in "Stop the Bleed" training, ultrasound sessions, intubation procedures, and IV insertion, providing practical experience and fostering confidence in clinical settings.
The MCAT 101 session offered valuable insights into effective study strategies and resources, supplemented by experiences shared by current medical students. Application and personal statement workshops provided guidance on navigating AMCAS and secondary applications, emphasizing how to effectively communicate each student’s unique background.
Mock interviews were a significant part of the conference, allowing participants to hone their skills with real medical students and professionals, and gain personalized feedback to improve their performance. Additionally, discussions with admissions representatives from various Midwest medical schools offered insights into different programs and what they seek in applicants.
Keynote addresses and panels featured inspiring stories from Latino physicians and medical students, providing motivation and advice for our journey. More than just a series of workshops, the conference was a celebration of our shared mission: "sanando a nuestra gente con amor."
Leaving the conference, our chapter felt more inspired, connected, and committed than ever to increasing Latino representation in medicine.
