The key event which our club is oriented on is the LMSA Midwest Conference. This is an event designed to bring together pre-medical students, medical students, and healthcare professionals who are members or supporters of the Latino Medical Student Association. For LMSA Plus members (Pre-Med students), the conference offers valuable opportunities for networking, mentorship, and professional development. Attendees can participate in workshops focused on the medical school application process, MCAT preparation, and career planning. They also have the chance to engage in discussions on health disparities, diversity in medicine, and leadership in the healthcare field, while connecting with peers and professionals who share their goals and cultural background.
In our first meeting, we introduced the club and its mission to support members on their journey to a healthcare career. We wrapped up with a fun game testing everyone's knowledge of Spanish medical terminology.
During our meeting with another SOLES (Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists), students were informed about various post-undergraduate paths to receive a higher education degree. Board members of our club offered information on the path of Medical School. Information regarding timelines, classes, job opportunites, and more was discussed.
Through our first fundraising event of the semester, we were inspired to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Therefore, we wanted to give the opportunity to campus to try the amazing-tasting paletas that we grew up eating throughout our childhood.
Students engaged in a fun game of lotería with a medical spin to it!
