Overview

Over the past three decades, Chile has been among the real economic success stories in Latin America. At the same time, Chile is one of the most unequal countries in the world. Nowhere is this inequality more evident than in the educational sector, where there is an enormous opportunity gap. While 95% of students in the top economic quintile graduate from high school; only 30% of students in the bottom quintile graduate. With few exceptions, students in the bottom quintile go to underperforming public schools.

Chile is in the process of completely restructuring the way public education is managed. Traditionally, public schools were controlled by 345 different municipalities. However, over the next ten years administration of these schools will be centralized under 70 Local Education Services with the explicit goal of working to improve quality and equity within the education system. This significant centralizing effort creates an opportunity for Ensena Chile to dramatically increase its reach and impact through leveraging change within the Local Education Services.

Colegios Que Aprenden, the consulting arm of Ensena Chile, works directly with schools and Local Educational Services to improve the outcomes of schools. As Colegios Que Aprenden continues to grow and expand, they are looking for opportunities to increase the breadth and depth of their impact both within schools and the Local Education Services. They are looking for assistance in developing a strategic plan to capitalize on this time of upheaval within the Chilean education system, as well as to measure in a more systematic way the impact of their work.
