Year 1 Spring

Theme:

Human Flourishing

"People only flourish when continually oriented toward the common good and are able to participate in it to the best of their abilities" (1 Corinthians 12:7).

  1. Please begin by reading the grounding scripture for this theme which can be found in Luke 19: 1-10.

  2. Then, proceed to view Sister Gail Mayotte's reflection below and consider the following reflection questions:

    • What stood out to you from the reflection below on Human Flourishing?

    • What new learnings on the sources and outcomes of human flourishing can be found in this Gospel encounter?

  1. An optional prayer service is available below for your download and use.

Finally, we ask that you consider the two workshop offerings for this spring and register for your choice of one of the two workshops. Please plan to register by Tuesday, March 8.

Human Flourishing Prayer Service (optional)

This prayer service was prepared as a way of extending the theme of Human Flourishing into further prayer and reflection. You are welcome to download this for your own personal or professional use.

Workshop Option 1

Liberatory Consciousness

Participants will learn a four-step framework for promoting reconciliation and working towards the common good. Working with a case study from an actual teacher's experience in a Catholic grade school, participants will come to better understand the kinds of questions, planning and action needed to facilitate the kind of encounter necessary to build community in and beyond Catholic schools.

Facilitators: LiberatED and Kevin Fitzsimmons

Date: Tuesday, March 15

Time: 7:30-8:30 PM on Zoom

Workshop Option 2

Human Flourishing in the Catholic School Classroom

Participants will hear from the perspective of a Catholic school leader, teacher, and teacher educator the kinds of praxis-oriented "moves" one might make from a curricular, classroom management, and dispositional standpoint to facilitate the kinds of classroom-level encounters needed to involve students in contributing to the common good. Participants will have the opportunity to consider the kinds of teacher-to-student, student-to-student, and student-to-world interactions that help to cultivate students' full human flourishing.

Facilitators: Principal Melissa Green and Mike Macaluso

Date: Wednesday, March 16

Time: 7:30-8:30 PM on Zoom
