The Master of Microbial Biotechnology Alumni Network (MMBAN) is a University-sponsored club founded in 2022 with the purpose of connecting current and former MMB students. Once a month, the MMBAN organizes a networking event at a local triangle brewery and invites specific alumni members to discuss their career journey and provide insight on navigating anything from job offers to gaining more experience in a specific field. As the treasurer, I manage and negotiate club funds to ensure the MMBAN remains in good standing with the University, and I contribute to the planning of all events, including our most recent 20th year Anniversary gathering at NCSU's PSI building.
As a General Microbiology lab instructor, I teach basic laboratory fundamentals, such as experimental design, hypothesis development, media production, T-streaking, metabolic test identification, and gram-staining. I am responsible for instructing, implementing, and assessing coursework for approximately 50 students as well as maintaining our course websites to provide the best learning experience.
Teaching Microbiology labs at NCSU has been one of my favorite experiences as a graduate student because it allows me to develop skills in management, teaching, group leadership, and speaking, all while sharing my passion with the younger generation of students.
In November of 2021, I was selected out hundreds of peers in my Department of Crop and Soil Sciences (CSSC) to be recognized in a student spotlight article. These articles are meant to highlight students who perform above and beyond expectations, and ignite a sense of excitement and curiosity in the younger generation of students pondering the idea of applying into the CSSC department at NCSU.
As an undergraduate, I served as a volunteer with NCSU's chapter of Habitat for Humanity (HFH). HFH is a global non-profit housing organization with the goal of building affordable housing for local families in need. Volunteering with HFH was an excellent way for me to take a mental break from coursework and put my carpentry skills to the test!
