MBA 585 is a course designed to advance students' comprehension of current developments in the biosciences. The curriculum encompasses presentations by guest speakers from a diverse array of professions that support the bioscience sector, such as biomanufacturing, venture capital, biotech entrepreneurship, agtech, biomedical sales, among others. This class enables students to comprehend the many supporting acts enabling biotechs to function and also develop an idea of their desired career path following graduation.
The culmination of the course involves a final presentation on a crucial topic in the biosciences. Our group was assigned the task of evaluating the expanding nutraceutical market, and the presentation is available for viewing below.
Project Title: New Trends in Nutraceuticals
As a member of the nutraceuticals team, my responsibilities involved conducting a comprehensive case study on the evolution of the dynamic green tea market. I conducted interviews with leading researchers in the field, evaluated major market players, and contributed to a written deliverable explaining one of the oldest nutraceutical markets and its evolution through several hundreds of years.

MBA 576 is a wonderful course designed to teach students with a technical background- such as one in biology/biotechnology or engineering- how to appropriately analyze a technology, utilize it to develop a product, and finally bring it to market. The goal of this class is to teach students who were primarily trained in technical sciences the principles of business, and how to create a functioning business model. MBA 576 is the first class in a two-part series, and the second class, MBA 577, is all about taking the subsequent steps to create a true business and acquire funding.
Project Title: IonSee It Electrolyte Measurement System
My team partnered with a technologist at VCU who had developed a novel method of analyzing blood electrolytes that play a critical role in human health. Starting with the technology, our team was tasked with researching tens to hundreds of market segments to determine the best introductory and secondary markets for our product. During this process, our team conducted over 40 VOC interviews to collect insights into specific markets and product requirements.
