Scenarios in Groups
There is a great deal of classroom management related to the academic work of your students. You need to manage how you are going to assess them - what do they know, what do you want them to know and how do you know if they’ve learned it? You will need to manage differentiation for kids who are at different levels, achieve learning goals at different times and/or need extra help or a chance to get ahead. Thinking about how you will manage groups, handouts, etc. is an important part of classroom management.
The most obvious form of classroom management comes in the form of managing the behavior of students. This includes thinking about how you will manage class discussions or asking questions, consequences and rewards for behavior, and positive reinforcement.
How are you going to manage the “space” issues and general organization of your classroom. This includes some obvious pieces like seating for students but also is thinking about the “big picture” i.e. how you are going to keep all these pieces together. Parents are an important part of your organization particularly in their help with behavior management of their own students and in volunteering in your classroom.
Your principal wants to hear from each grade level team about a technology tool they are going to implement. Each grade level will stand up at the faculty meeting. You are the representative. Here are some things your principal may want to know:
Is the tool free, or does it cost money?
How does the tool work?
Why should the school choose this tool over similar ones?
What instructional goals does it meet?
What are the management considerations? (What platforms does it run on? Will students AND teachers use it?)
Is the tool simple to use, or is there a steep learning curve?
Plan now for how your team is going to present your tool.
