Our event went quite well, but sometimes our communication was not the best. Next time, we need to communicate better while planning the event! We would assume someone else was handling a task, forget to do some things and fall behind schedule, etc. But overall, our event went smoothly. Some lessons learned from Program 1 included being persistent in contacting other businesses that we were partnering with like the Agroecology Farm, communicating with our group members when we had questions and not being afraid of sounding like a micro-manager in those cases, and the importance of a Plan B. Persistence in contacting partners is important because it was very difficult to get in contact with the Agroecology Farm and the Dairy Unit and the time was cutting close when we finally got some of these logistics finalized, maybe even a little too close. Communication is an important lesson we learned because if you assume someone else is handling something and you leave it alone because you are afraid to mention something or making the other person upset, it could cause mayhem on the day of your event. And a Plan B is vital to planning a program because things could go wrong at any moment before, during, or even after your event. For example, the Dairy Unit ended up cancelling on us at the last minute, which was a highlight of our program, so since we had a Plan B, we were able to adjust our run sheet to accommodate the changes. These lessons translated into Program 2 in a variety of ways. Only having JCC as our main facility for Program 2, we did not have to worry about contacting and booking an off-site facility. The group members who were in primary charge of planning Program 2 did a good job of communicating their plans to the group members who weren’t primarily in charge, in order to make sure they were still in the loop and could perform their tasks for the program. Since Program 2 was located on site, we did not have to worry about having a partner cancel on us and having to change our activities at the last minute, although we still had Plan B’s because there were a variety of other aspects that would have prompted the use of a Plan B.
