An SAE is a Supervised Agricultural Experience. SAEs provide students with the opportunity to apply what they are learning in agriscience in a real-world setting. There are a variety of SAE options for students, including school-based SAEs, entrepreneurship SAEs (student-owned), placement SAEs (employment), research SAEs, and more!

A foundational SAE allows students to explore topics in agriculture, food, and natural resources before committing to an Immersion SAE. An agriscience student will progress through all three stages during their junior year (first year).
Examples of Foundational SAEs: interviewing someone in a career field of choice, completing an iCEV certificate, shadowing an expert in agriculture, food, and/or natural resources, doing a virtual business & industry tour (not during class time), attending a professional organization meeting (such as Farm Bureau), volunteering for a short time at a pet shelter, etc. A Foundational SAE is NOT a continuation of something a student already does, but something new for a student to explore career fields that match their interests.
An Immersion SAE allows a student to focus on a specific interest in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. There are many options, which are further explained in the student guides below. All second year agriscience students are required to have an Immersion SAE.
