Date: Early November
We will be taking 5 chickens from each pen to the contest. They will be judged alive and then judged after processing. Students will answer questions to the judges about how they were raised. There is no cost to attend, and lunch will be provided.
Lead Advisor: Mrs. Schweitzer
The first bag of feed you fed was purchased at Tractor Supply Company. The second and third type of feed was purchased from Tri-County Feeds in New Era.
The chicks cost $1.25 each.
The chicks came from Townline Hatchery.
We gave them electrolytes for the first six days.
The original temperature in the room was 95 degrees F. We adjusted each week by running the ventilation more often to drop it 5 degrees each week. It is now about 75 degrees.
Our broilers were not vaccinated prior to arrival.
Ventilation: We have a fan that pulls air out of the room
The chickens that are not going to the contest will be processed at Heritage Farms in Fremont on November 3rd. It will cost $4.00/bird.
We will market the birds to friends and family through the use of a flyer created by students.
