In compliance with 2023 Wisconsin Act 20, North Crawford School District has a research-based, approved reading curriculum in place for our early learners.
Approved Reading Curriculum
Since the 2022–2023 school year, we have been using Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) as our foundational English Language Arts curriculum in Grades K–5. CKLA is aligned to evidence-based literacy practices and supports systematic instruction in critical components of reading, including:
Phonological and phonemic awareness
Phonics and word recognition
Fluency
Vocabulary development
Comprehension strategies
Staff Training
In addition to curriculum adoption, our instructional staff have participated in professional learning aligned with best practices in reading instruction to support effective implementation of CKLA across grade levels.
