What is WIFI and WIFI Hotspots?

WIFI

A wireless or WiFi network uses a radio frequency signal instead of wires to connect your devices - such as computers, printers and smartphones - to the Internet and each other. The WiFi signal can be picked up by any wireless-capable device such as a computers, laptops, cell phones or tablets within a certain distance in all directions.

WIFI Hotspot

WiFi hotspots are internet access points that allow you to connect to a WiFi network using your computer, smartphone or another device while away from your home or office network.

We are no longer using the form to collect information for those who need a Chromebook or WIFI Hotspot.

Instead, please contact us at our Family Help Desk to request a Chromebook or hot spot

Good information and tips to know

Multiple internet able devices on one network

Your network strength can depend on several factors:

  • How many internet enabled devices are being used on your network (doorbells, security systems, home thermostats, lights and cell phones)?

  • How fast/powerful is it?

Perhaps temporarily turning OFF these devices while learning can help increase the stability of your network.

Distance from WIFI to device

If your devices are physically too far away from the WIFI device (router/hotspot), it may not be able to connect.

  • Move closer to your WIFI device to gauge its stability.

  • Keep your devices fully charged

  • Use a direct ethernet cord if you have one.
