As a School Counselor, It is my pleasure to work with all of the students at Duncan Elementary through providing classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. I also work and collaborate with various school staff members and parents in order to best meet the needs of our students and to build a stronger school community.
Classroom Lessons
I visit each classroom multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons are typically 25-30 minutes in length and cover topics such as school readiness skills, the understanding and expression of feelings (both self and others), problem solving skills (conflict resolution), friendship skills, and study skills.
Small Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-12 members and usually meet once a week during an agreed upon time with their classroom teachers. Most groups run for several weeks (10 - 12, 1x per week).
Individual Check-ins
Some students can benefit from a one-on-one check-in regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.
