Chess Club
Chess at Duncan is an extracurricular activity that meets during lunch recess and, is open to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
Why Chess?
In many parts of the world (in schools) chess has been introduced as major part of the curriculum, due to the direct correlation between playing chess and an increase in the mathematical and scientific skills of students. Chess also increases the problem solving skills of students as well as, the increase of their confidence and self-worth.
Chess teaches a child that they are responsible for their own actions, and it gives them the confidence and courage to confront all the outcomes of those decisions. Students who participate in the Chess Club have an opportunity to meet other students from other classes and begin new friendships.
