To order archive data that can be used in NWCSAF fist click on the Data Centre icon. This will take you to the part of the website where you can browse all the available data to download and select what you want to be included in your order.
To find right kind of satellite data that can be used in NWCSAF enter "High Rate" into the search term. This will bring up three options. The one that we want to select (and our NWCSAF software is set up to work with) is the High Rate SEVIRI Level 1.5 Image Data - MSG - 0 degree. Select this and then click "NEXT STEP" at the bottom of the screen.
The next option allows you to select individual satellites. If you know which satellite is active for the period that you are searching for then go ahead and select one. If not you can leave this selected to all the possible satellites and press "NEXT STEP" at the bottom of the screen.
The next screen will allow you to select the time period that you want to download data for. Be aware that if you select a long period of time then the number of files in (and overall size of) your order might exceed the limits set by the portal. You should also consider how long an order might take to download over your internet. A single day of HRIT data from SEVIRI is approximately 8 Gb in size. Therefore if you have connectivity problems or slow internet it will be much better to select small orders and put in extra orders if you need it.
With this in mind in this tutorial we will select a 12 hour period on Jan 1st 2020. Once you have entered the required dates and time make sure you click apply to select the correct period. Once you have applied the right times click NEXT STEP at the bottom of the screen.
The next screen allows you to select a region of interest. We can select NEXT STEP straight away at this point to receive a full disk image.
The next screen allows us to select what format we want the data to be delivered in. For NWCSAF-GEO it is important we receive the data in HRIT format. At the top of the screen there is a drop down menu. From this menu select "HRIT data sets in tar file". If the screen looks the same as show below then you have selected the correct option. Now press the NEXT STEP button.
The next screen gives the option to select how we want the data delivered. We will select Online HTTP and select no compression. We can now press NEXT STEP.
Finally we are taken to an summary of you current orders. Orders can take a long time to be processed (smaller orders are more likely to be fulfilled quickly). There is also a limit of 10 orders per account so this makes it difficult to order very large amounts of data. A very useful link on this screen is the option (once an order has been selected from your order list) to clone an order. This will fill in all the same choices you have just made and take you back to the date/time selection page. This makes it very easy to generate new orders that are identical to previous orders but differ only by their time range. Once an order is ready to download you will receive and email and from that point you will have 7 days to download the data before your order is removed.
