In the classroom

Dress Code

Children rely on you as the parent to help keep them in the dress code. Please be mindful that socks and stockings (solid white, black, gray,tan or navy), shoes, hair bows, and inside sweaters need to align with the dress code at all times. More information can be found in the Family Handbook.

Please be mindful of the weather and outside temperatures and provide appropriate winter outerwear. Unless the temperature or windchill is below 15 degrees we will be going outside for recess and an afternoon wiggle break.  For those days that students may need to wear snow boots to school, they must also bring a pair of indoor shoes to wear for their classes.

Homework Expectations:

Read read read read read!  I will soon be sending home a reading log for you and your student to fill out every week.  PLEASE have them read aloud to you everyday.

Math:

We  will work on our math worksheets everyday in class together.  Sometimes the math worksheets will not be totally complete when they are sent home.  They are not homework, but it is strongly encouraged that you look over these worksheets with your student and is very beneficial if they finish the worksheets at home.  

I will give opportunities to  make corrections on tests and some (not all) math homework.  Students have the option to earn half credit for corrections.  These corrections will only be accepted on or before the date indicated.  

We will also be practicing math facts in class.  Repetition is the mother of memory.  The more they practice these the easier their math work will become.  This is something that you can practice easily together.  We will be sending math fact practice packets to complete at home. If you can, a little everyday is better than a lot on one or two days for retaining skills.

Math packets and reading logs will be due on Mondays.

Absence:

Sadly, sometimes we have to miss.  I will send any worksheets your student missed home with them as soon as possible after they return.  The work we do in class will be excused and optional as make up work.  However, they will still be responsible for any tests or projects that are missed or are upcoming when they get back.  

Parent Involvement in the Classroom:

While parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom, students need to adjust to being back in a school year routine. Please see my weekly newsletters (found on my website) for future sign-up volunteer opportunities once our classes have had the opportunity to establish our procedures and expectations.

Birthdays, and Snacks:

NO invitations (unless one is given to each and every child without exception) or birthday/holiday treats are permitted in the classroom at any time.

Birthdays will be celebrated monthly. We will celebrate summer birthdays in May.

Our snack time is roughly 10 minutes long. Please pack a small but nutritious snack that can be eaten quickly. Please ensure your snacks are dry (think granola bars, cheese sticks instead of go-gurts and fruit cups) and are nut-free for the safety of all students in the classroom.  Please send snacks that do not require utensils.
