Homework Expectations:
Read read read read read! I will soon be sending home a reading log for you and your student to fill out every week. If you don't do any other school work with your student PLEASE read aloud with them everyday.
Math:
We will work on our math worksheets everyday in class together. Sometimes the math worksheets will not be totally complete when they are sent home. They are not homework, but it is strongly encouraged that you look over these worksheets with your student and is very beneficial if they finish the worksheets at home.
We will also be practicing math facts in class. Repetition is the mother of memory. The more they practice these the easier their math work will become. This is something that you can practice easily together. We will be sending math fact practice packets to completed at home. If you can, a little everyday is better than a lot on one or two days for retaining skills.
Math packets and reading logs will be due on Mondays
Absence:
Sadly, sometimes we have to miss. I will send any worksheets your student missed home with them as soon as possible after they return. The work we do in class will be excused. However, they will still be responsible for any tests or projects that are missed or are upcoming when they get back.

Happy second week of school!!!
Be on the lookout!! reading logs and math fact practice sheets are coming home today in you student's gray folder. Both are due on the next Monday. These will be sent home every Monday to be returned every following Monday.
Reading logs - please have your student read out loud 20 minutes every night including weekends and days off. Small bits of consistent work will show much more growth than large amounts of inconsistent work. After they have done their reading they can fill out the reading log EACH DAY and have you initial that the reading has been done.
Math facts practice - we have made a shift in the primary level grades to have a larger focus on math facts. We believe they are foundational to the success of our students in all math going forward. Please practice math facts with your students every night to build fluency and confidence. The math packets are to be done one sheet per night. Again, small bits of practice everyday will help more than large amounts of work on only a couple days.

Unfortunately, I have to be out of town for a family event that is out of my control. I will not be able to have our normal parent teacher conferences this year. Instead, I will be sending home packets to show a bit of how your student has started out. If you have specific concernsthat you would like to discuss I am happy to meet with you at a different time. Please let me know so we can set something.
I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
