Updates / Announcements
August 26th- Welcome back to school! In third grade music your student will be singing, playing recorder, listening to music, learning about instruments, and so much more. I will be posting monthly updates in the sections below so that way you can see what we are learning about each month. I look forward to making music with your student this year!
Practice
Although we will not have a lot of homework in 3rd grade music I highly recommend that your student practice their recorder starting in January. When your student receives their recorder I recommend that they practice for at least 20 minutes a week. If they would like some extra practice on certain topics that we will cover during the year you can look at the Resource page on my website.
Students will be studying rhythms, ear training and solfege in every class. Students should be able to count, clap, and dictate quarter note and quarter rest rhythms. They will also be able to identify sounds that are high and low, and be able to read, recognize and sing two solfege symbols. We will be singing the song My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean and studying string and woodwind instruments. Students will have two quizzes, one over the string instruments, and the other over woodwind instruments. Students will have completed a worksheet in class that will make a great study guide.
Students will be studying Brass and Percussion instruments and will have a quiz over each of those. We will then be listening to the Planets by Holst and learn how to listen to an orchestral piece of music. Students will also be starting their winter concert music. We will be singing Frosty the Snowman, Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is coming to town, and What a Wonderful World.
Our concert is on Wednesday, December 11th at 8:00am in the Gym. Students are expected to wear their formal school uniform.
Students will be bringing recorders home.
