1st Grade Music

Updates / Announcements

August 26th- Welcome back to school! In first grade music your student will be singing, listening to music, learning about instruments, and so much more. I will be posting monthly updates in the sections below so that way you can see what we are learning about each month. I look forward to making music with your student this year! 

August/September Newsletter

Students will be able to count and clap quarter note and quarter rest rhythms. We will be singing: Make New Friends, John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmitt, There's A Hole In My Bucket, as well as some warm-up songs. We will also introduce students to instruments in the string, woodwind and brass family. 


October Newsletter

Students will learn to count and clap 8th notes and 8th note rests. We will be singing There's A Hole In My Bucket and begin our concert Songs. For the concert we will be singing Up on the Housetop, Deck the Halls, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, The 12 Days of Christmas, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Students will learn about the percussion family, what a conductor does, and how music can tell a story. 

NOvember Newsletter

Students will learn to count and clap quarter note and 8th note rhythms. We will continue to practice our concert music that we began learning in October. Students will be listening to the orchestral piece Peter and The Wolf and identify instruments that they hear. 

December Newsletter

Our concert is on Monday, December 9th at 8:00am in the Gym. Students are expected to wear their regular school uniform but are welcome to wear their formal uniform if they choose. This month students will be learning how to clap 16th note rhythms, compose their own piece, and listen to The Nutcracker. 

January Newsletter

Students will be bringing recorders home.
