This is a recent addition to my educational tool belt: The One Word Project. I first heard about this project by one of the educators who presented at a recent Pear Fair (for Pear Deck). After seeing her presentation, especially on SEL topics, I decided to follow her on social media (IG: @stuckonedu) The One Word Project can be used at any time of year for any subject or topic in your classroom. Below you will see all the materials that I used for my 6th and 8th grade students, including a Teacher Document.
This is the teacher document I shared with my fellow LNA teachers: it includes all the links you will need for this project.
(1) The Pear Deck for Brainstorming (which is also included below)
(2) The Youtube Video links for students to watch during brainstorming portion
(3) The List of Words that students can choose from for the end of their brainstorming as well as their completion of the project. (including links to word origin and thesaurus website to help them learn more about their words.
(4) The Google Slides (that you would make copies of for each student) to complete to learn more about their One Word (which is included below)
(5) Examples of One Word Project Posters (students can use Canva, Word Art, other digital drawing platforms as well the paper and pencil method)
This is the Pear Deck that students would complete as a brainstorming tool for their One Word Project. (Shoutout to Canva for these powerpoint presentation slide designs!)
This is the Google Slides that students will complete for their One Word Project. For the last slide (Slide 6) that is where they will include a shareable link to their One Word Design (this can be from Canva, Word Art, etc) This might be a step in which you want to model for the students who are unfamiliar with creating sharable links.
