This painting is a self portrait.
I like braiding my hair and I don’t have 1 favorite color.
The message I wanted to convey is that...the world around me is full of color I think I was successful in conveying the message. The style or artistic movements and cultures I have looked at many geometric paintings from many artist and I got inspired. The formal elements I used line, shape, color and texture. The tool I used toothpicks for texture and paint brushes. They both worked very good.
I am really proud of this painting because it does look like what I planned in my head.
I wouldn’t change anything because I really like the way this painting came out and I added lots of detail and I tried my best to make it look like this.

Title: Simply Unique
Date: October 9, 2020
Medium: Acrylic paint
Size: 8 x 10
The theme of this painting is Identity. The cheetah print in the background describes or represents me in a way. I like to think I can be fierce sometimes and a cheetah reminded me of something fierce. The cheetah symbolism is a reminder to work on your focus and speed because not all the best opportunities will be available for you forever. It also symbolizes flexibility and adaptability when it comes to your influences, because they are always changing. I think this applies to me in certain aspects in my life. I looked at paintings of black women to help inspire me. I did not use texture, but I shaped my body and face and I used shapes to do the cheetah design. I also used squiggly lines to form my hair. The colors that I used did not have tone, I used brown, red, black, and light brown. I used a pencil to sketch out my picture first, then used multiple paint brushes to paint. I also used a paper plate to put my items on. I am very happy with my final piece and I think I worked quickly, and efficiently to complete it. I especially like my hair. I would not change anything.

I decided to draw myself behind a sunset which can describe me as someone who enjoys looking at the sunset.
The meaning of this drawing is to display a version of myself today behind a beautiful view; which I think I did pretty well.
I used the blending technique to show of the sunset accurately and I attempted to use a shade of brown to show some texture to the hat shown. Sometimes it was difficult to find the right shade for certain parts.
I am content with my final piece.

The theme of this painting is Self Portrait.
Something that can describe or define me is the phrase on my arm “Jesus loves you” or the letter “H” The phrase means that I’m a christian and the letter “H’ means I’m from Honduras. The message I wanted to convey is that I am a Christian and that there is someone very great who loves me... I have always been inspired by the sky and by paintings that are incredibly painted in black and white...So I combined both.

This painting represents who I am. The girl with the skull face represents one of my art pieces I took inspiration from that and used it in this Artwork the girl on the right represents my ethnicity... I used an image of my self and the rest came from my ideas and what I sketched to create this piece. I used bright colors to bring the portrait to life and I outlined certain parts to make the colors pop. I am very happy with my piece because I worked really hard on it to make it look interesting. My favorite part of my painting is the "skull face" with the light purple hair...

Title: Dream Night
Date: 10/21
Medium: Acrylic Paint
Size: 9’’ x 12’’
For this painting I use a photo reference, I just added the moon.
I used “tints , tones, and shades” to define the space in my painting in the background to make an ombre effect. I used shading in the water reflection as well as in the trees and the corner of the cottage. There is a snowy texture in the pine trees, the ground, and in the roof of the cottage.

Magical Wolf

Circle stencil, paintbrush, pencil, and water
Acrylic paint on canvas
Artist statement:
The theme is the night sky in the winter weather, full moon with wolf howling. My geographical location of my landscape is in Alaska, Mount Bona. In my painting its a background of the Bonas mountain during winter with a bit of snow. Color wise my painting doesn’t match the photo of reference but drawn wise it does. I added a wolf to show that in the mountains there are wolves. The way that i used tones and shades in my painting is by making darker and lighter shades of grey to highlight the points and make the moon and mountains stand out more and not look so plane. Yes i used color patterns to create texture. The kind of texture that I used in my painting is abstract by using different shades of white, black, and grey to create shadows and sharp lines on the mountains.

Title of the painting: Jeju Island
Medium: Watercolor and acrylic paint
Size: 8 x 10 in (20.3 x 25.4cm)
The theme of this painting is a landscape. The geographical location of my landscape is a photo from Jeju Island located in South Korea. The background shows the sky, and it’s volcano while the middle ground and foreground shows the field and the flowers. I used different tones of greens and pinks to show the contrast and create a dimension for the many flowers and the field leading to the volcano. Since my reference photo showed an ombre effect on the sky, and the land, I used blue and blended it with white to create it and added and blended amounts of white in order to create clouds. It took some overlapping different shades of colors in order to create an effect.

The theme of the work is religion
The painting represents a saint that people look up to in my religion. It’s the virgin Mary holding a baby (baby Jesus).
I’m connected to this theme because it relates to my religion. So it represents my culture because my culture is heavily based on religion and there are many celebrations for it.
I think this painting can be used to teach others about interests such as culture and religion.
For this painting I used contrast, space, and texture.
I used reference photos and I changed my original design because I wasn’t satisfied with it.
I learned how to use "copic" markers better and how to overall not mix my colors.
This work will contribute to something in society, it can contribute to the understanding of religion.

Date: 11/16/20
Medium: Acrylic Paint
Artist statement:
The theme of this painting is culture. This painting represents the African American culture. The painting is of a African American girl with her hair representing the Kente cloth pattern. Kente is popular in my culture because each color of the cloth is symbolic: gold = status/serenity, yellow = fertility, green = renewal, blue = pure spirit/harmony, red = passion, black = union with ancestors/spiritual awareness. This represents my culture because the pattern is famous in my connection to other African Americans and Africans. I think my painting can teach others about something that is popular in my culture. The elements and designs that I used were shapes, color contrast, balance, color, and emphasis.

Title: Garifunas, Date: 11/13/20
Medium: acrylic on canvas, Size: 9x12
Artist statement:
This is my cultural painting. This painting shows the Garifunas that live in Honduras. They are usually dark skinned and live on the coast of the country near the beaches. I am from Honduras, and when I was thinking about what to do for this painting, I thought that I should do something about Garifunas because I think their history is really interesting. I am also in love with their dancing as well. I might not be a Garifuna myself, but I’m still a Honduran who shows my respect for them. This painting can teach others how they dressed and still dress till’ this day.
I tried to use Texture when painting my grass. I also tried to use colorful colors for their clothes because they are always seen with these pretty colorful clothes. I tried to make some type of texture/material for the women's headwear...

Narrative Painting
December 03, 2020
Size: 30.4 x 22.3 cm
I established the message with the expression on his face. Ignore biases. The images that he established were, from Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok and Instagram, also a photo of my brother. I really had no references in this painting, the idea is my own. Nor did I have a brainstorm, one day it just came to my mind and that's it. There is emphasis on the apps where young people are criticized. I believe that the prejudices of social networks is very delicate and we must ignore them in order to trust ourselves.
Artist statement:
The theme of the work is Social justice.
The human experience my painting represent is protests. The main characters are protesters and activists. My painting is the protests going on in the world today, Black lives matter, LGBTQ+, Child rape, and Women’s protest. The symbols are ours hands we raise them up or put them in fist in every protest. Words we say "Don’t shoot” “Am i Next?” “I cant breathe” “ I am not a child toy” “Love is Love” “A rapist in your path”
We the people need to be heard, THERE’S NEED TO CHANGE NOW. We keep fighting for our rights, we want change now and stop killing us for our skin, race, gender, age, and sexuality. People of color, women, children and the LGTBQ+ community are affected.
I use our hands for our sign of protest and chants.
I used color, lines, shape, movement, variety and unity
I learned that we need change and we will fight until we get it. These protest been going on for years and we won’t stop. This work contribute something to society because society needs to change the way it sees people, not everyone is the same.

Artist statement:
The theme of the work is a Human experience. This painting represents how people are manipulated and controlled into doing things that will make them miserable. The main character of the story are people who work jobs nine hours a day, in a cubicle, staring at a computer 24 seven, and feeling miserable. The man in a suit being moved by strings attached to huge hands to represent a puppeteer. This puppeteer is making the man do things that wouldn’t be in his best interest if he had free thinking. Yes I think people will relate to my message especially artists who have a creative and unique mindset. I think this promotes better education for children because I feel like school is the thing draining children of creation and free thought. Children are put into rows, they are told to raise your hand when they need to use the bathroom or talk. If you do your research school was actually made this way to mimic the away people would work in factories back then...This work will open peoples eyes and tell them to be creative and bright.

Artsit Statement:
The theme is “Your Choice” painting, which gave me the opportunity to choose by myself the painting I would like to paint. The subject is yearning a purpose and having it in front of you. I used shadows in order to create the clouds that are painted with grey color. Emphasis in order to show the importance of the bright tree. What I try to express with this painting is that the most desired thing is in front of you, that one thing you need in order to fulfill your desires and when it is there, you just stare at it just to appreciate it for a second and admire all that took you to get there. That is what my painting is trying to convey. I am happy with this painting although I acknowledge that is not the most beautiful painting and that the drawing is not the best, but this one feels unique on its own because of its significance.
