Still Life Photography

Still life photography is a unique genre of photography in that the objects used are often simplistic leaving the photographer with a vast amount of exploring and experimenting of the composition, the lighting and the settings. Those every day objects can often represent the artist life and world through a symbolic meaning.

Photographer Statement: All pictures have the same setting whether it shows a lot or a little. Each single picture has a specific style all having different compositions. For example, there is rules of thirds, balancing elements, symmetry, and formal weight. In every day life we all have our own opinions on anything in general. Sometimes forgetting there is more than one answer. The pictures are a reminder there is more than one perspective that is correct. Sometimes we try to push our answers into being right rather than accepting all answers or opinions. Every picture is random like all random topics in the world. Your opinion is yours always respect everyone else. All pictures lighting is different and ideal for the style of its originality all shining bright in their own way. The objects are basic every day items you may have in your house depending on the way you use it can make it shine and not be so plain and boring as you may of thought. Enjoy! :)

The main subject of my project is my bedroom because It is a place where I can go away from all the stress and everything that bothers me. I want to show things that make me happy and remind me of happy memories. I learned that you can turn something boring into a masterpiece.

Lizbeth O.

The main subject is my lego car in different types of backgrounds. I expect my audience to appreciate my hard work. I want to take better pictures and edit them better. I have learned that difference of angle and composition can change the photograph meaning.

My uncle passed 2 years ago and he had his own sneaker collection. My project is focused on my uncle’s sneakers and the memory that I hold of him. I want the audience to feel happy because I want to show them not the life that was lost but the life that was lived. In this project I learned it's okay to go outside the original plan because then something better might show up.

The elephant inspired me because it reminds me of my grandma. My grandma is my whole world, she is the reason why I am the person I am today. The fact that my project had a meaningful story behind it made me want to push myself to work on it even more. Also you can tell that I kept using the candle as an object because I felt that it went together with the elephant. In my opinion images aren’t only images, they have a story behind them even if it isn’t as meaningful. Just one image can speak for themselves.

Pop Art Portraits

Portrait photography is one of the most popular genres of photography. High quality portrait photographers are able to capture the personality and emotion of people around them creating works of art that convey meaning or tell a story.

In the Pop Art Project, the portraits were reproduced over and over again as one would find it reprinted in commercial advertisements. After viewing multiple images, the viewer stops seeing a person but is left with an icon of popular, consumer culture.

Landscape Photography

Landscape art, is the depiction of natural scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers, and forests, especially where the main subject is a wide view. In modern days, landscape can show a wide view of nature that includes man-made structures, buildings, architecture and roads.

Landscape photography is the art of capturing pictures of nature and the outdoors in a way that brings your viewer into the scene. From grand landscapes to intimate details, the best photos demonstrate the photographer’s own connection to nature and capture the essence of the world around them.

I made this landscape photographs in a park called Boyd Park. The feelings I get is sadness because of the trees with no leaves. These pictures also bring happiness because of the memories I had in this park. I used to play baseball with my cousin in this park. I also took jogs to calm my mind from things. People fish at this park for fun when it’s warmer outside. I'm proud because I didn’t think that the pictures would come out good and they made me view the park in a different way. I would take the picture in different times of the day to next time I do this project.

My landscape picture was made in Leander, TX. The connection I have to this place is that this is where my dad’s family is and the first time I met them I was 12 and they were in Puerto Rico at the time, then they moved to Texas and they invited me to come over every summer since I was 14. In this location a lot of people come to relax or they even come to fish. What I’m most proud of is about the 4th picture. It's so beautiful and it’s just my favorite landscape photograph. Something that I would change is that the 3rd picture is I believe I could’ve backed up a little bit more to show more of the area.

I went outside near a field to shoot these photographs, this is a place where I feel comfortable. Humans and nature are balanced here and I am proud that I learned to take a closer look and to notice particular things around me.

I took these photographs on a building in NYC called, “The Edge”. It was a really outstanding view, I absolutely loved it. You can’t really see much of nature or humans on these photographs because I’m really high up. I’m proud of the fact that I got to take these photographs on one of the tallest buildings in NYC. If I could change something about this project, I would probably add more nature into the pictures because you can’t really see much of it on my photographs.

Documentary Photography / Photojournalism

Photojournalism is the process of storytelling using the medium of photography as your main story telling device. While a journalist will use their pen and paper to tell stories, a photojournalist will use their camera to capture the visual representation of a story.

Photojournalism is relevant, timely (record current events), objective and is creating a narrative in an aesthetically interesting image.

This is how life has become due to the covid-19 pandemic. Everyday has turned around and become more lax and dull. It has followed a route of just doing the same thing over again until the weekends, even then, I do the same things on that weekend and the next. These photos signify how I, and likely others, feel about the virus and its reach to ruin our everyday lives.

Brandon G.

With my series of photojournalism, I decided to have it hit close to home.. literally. When thinking of “I Simply Love” I immediately thought of my street and neighborhood.

The first thing I did as seen in the first photograph, was to capture the end of the street in this case the beginning of this story. The change from the first to the second photograph signifies me looking at the ground, or in other words not knowing what’s ahead as shown by the blur at the top of the second photograph and the darkened stripes meaning pauses. The last two photographs show me skateboarding on the street and eventually getting back on the sidewalk which work in a great way to display traversal or time passing. I love my neighborhood because both it and I changed overtime with uncertainty but eventually I came to understanding what else lies ahead.
