Introduction to Graphic Design

The Color Wheel
Without understanding even the basics of Color Theory, any design work will be lacking in success and quality.
The first step to understanding how colors work, is with the color wheel.
In Pixlr, using our Shape and Fill, as well as our color pallet, we will construct our own color wheels.

Neon Text Effect
Neon art has been a part of American culture since the early 1900's. A neon sign could be used by the classiest of hotels and also the seediest of clubs.
Over recent years, this medium has begun to make a comeback, both as actual art and a digital effect.
Using PixlrE, we will create a typography design using a neon effect.

"It was hard to get the lighting right but the bevel effect allowed for my text to look realistic."
"I thought this project was fine, maybe just a little boring. It did come out looking good though there was problems with trying to get the effects and stuff right."
"I really liked the result and was amazed on how much it looks like a real neon sign, it was fun to make."
"I liked how this project came out. The glow of the sign happened by complete accident and I liked how it came out so I decided to keep it. This is my favorite project of MP2."

Album Cover Art: New is Old
From the 60's through the 80's, artwork for the 12" vinyl LP flourished. From psychedelic art to air brushing to photography, records were bought as much for the cover art as the music, itself.
Like the music, album cover art was often influenced by the times of the day. Social, political and economic issues were often translated into the work.
Decide on a vintage genre, choose a modern musician or band and create an album cover for them in that vintage style.
