In accordance with the OUSA rules, in order to be nationally ranked, an individual must:
F.1.1 - b. Earn Daily Ranking points in at least four races on the same color course in any class except M/F-White.
You will need to run in 4 races on the same color course to be nationally ranked. If you were to run four (4) courses in one color and then another course in another color, you will only get ranked for the four (4) courses of the same color. There are instances where people may start the year running accumulating 4 of one color course and then accumulate 4 of another color. They would then be ranked on both of the color courses.
*** Being here in Florida we are pretty far away from clubs that traditionally put on Nationally Ranked Events (NREs). The closest regularly scheduled NRE on a yearly basis is the Georgia Orienteering Club's
"Georgia Navigator Cup." It is a 4 day event that usually has three (3) Nationally Ranked Races, in January 2026 they had a Middle length NRE and two Classic NREs. If a person raced in all three of the races and did not DNF, MP, DQ etc. he or she would have three (3) NREs under his or her belt. He or she would need one (1) more to get ranked.
To see the OUSA National Ranking list: Click Here If you are a Gaither NJROTC or Vanguard NJROTC orienteer and you went to the Georgia Navigator Cup in January 2026, you will most likely be able to find yourself on the list.
Looking at the rankings lists, for the Orange, Brown, Green, and Red and then scrolling until you find the F-16, F-18, F-16, M-18, F-20, M-20 etc. you may find some FLO and SOAR runners on the lists but they are not ranked. The reason for this is that they only have 2 or 3 events (this is indicated on the far right column of the list). You must have 4 or more events to be moved up and ranked. So, those runners need to get another event to go up and get a ranking number (far left column. A perfect one would have been the OUSA Junior Nationals! But, any other NRE would or will do, there is still some time left in the year. We can also start fresh next year.
For this group, those who are intrested in getting nationally ranked, below is the proposal for next year:
January 15 - 17, 2027 - Georgia Navigator Cup - Everyone tries to get 2 to 3 races under their belt.
April 24 - 25, 2027 - OUSA Junior Nationals - Everyone gets 2 to 3 races under their belt.
The above is what we are striving to continue annually.
There are other opportunities for small groups or individuals to go to other NREs on their own etc. it will all have to do with each individual's financial situation and desire to attend more NREs etc. Other NREs that may be of interest this year are listed below. Click on the link for the event website
September 25 - 27, 2026 - Masters Nationals - It is in Ohio. - All classes can run in the NRE.
December 27 - January 02, 2026 - North American Orienteering Championships - Tucson, AZ - All classes can run in this NRE.
