Your student's teacher is the first and best resource for their learning. In addition, students can visit these web sites to continue or enhance their learning.

Reading

Reading: Our local library has books you can access digitally. You can log into Evergreen, the Whittemore library's resource, with your library account. You can also login to CHMS Overdrive with your student login credentials. As students read/listen to a book, they should use their reading journals to jot down:

  • Questions they have

  • What is happening in the story

  • Ideas they have about characters and their actions

  • What the author wants us, as readers, to learn at the end of the story

  • Grade 7 and Grade 8 students can access learning through Khan Academy, as well

  • Use your Naugatuck School Google Account to login to Actively Learn for high interest articles are different grade level and Lexile levels!

  • Participate in Middle Grade & YA Book Club Podcasts

Writing and Social Studies

Using their notebooks, students should write about their opinions, thoughts and ideas every day. They can use the read-aloud texts they engage with above, or read and listen to nonfiction texts, as well, that promote Social Studies learning.

  • At Actively Learn, students can sign up for a free account and access news articles.

  • At NewsELA, students can sign up for an account and access hundreds of articles. They can adjust the reading levels, too, to meet their needs.

  • Run for president at icivics.org.

  • More digital games are available with a learning focus.

Mathematics

At Naugatuck Public Schools students engage in math learning with Pearson's enVisions 2.0. Through their PowerSchool login, students can access their math learning. They can also visit ST Math and IXL, an online program used in our classrooms.

Students can visit Greg Tang's math site for games and other math learning opportunities. Students can also visit Jo Boaler's math site to take a free online math mindsets course for students.
