Academic Intervention
Early Support. Positive Progress.
Early Support. Positive Progress.
ViP is a parent choice school that is guided by the requirements of CA Ed Code and Assembly Bill 130 that requires students to maintain positive attendance, grades, and behavior to remain in online learning.
When a student fails to "maintain positive attendance, grades, and behavior", the ViP Student Support Plan Procedures are initiated.
Teacher Contacts
Teacher will contact the student and parents/guardians when the student’s grade drops below 70%.
If the grade drops and remains below 60% after multiple teacher outreach attempts, the student will proceed to Step 2 and be referred to the Student Support Team.
"In the event that a student’s academic performance drops below 70%, instructors will initiate biweekly email notifications to both the student and their guardians. This communication will continue until the student’s grade improves to a level exceeding 70% and/or if a Student Support Plan is initiated." - ViP Participation Agreement, p. 4
Student Support Team
When a student continues to demonstrate low academic progress, the Student Support Team will assign the student to a Student Support Advisor (SSA) to initiate a Student Support Plan (SSP). The SSA will contact the student and parents/guardians to schedule a virtual meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to review academic performance and attendance. If the student’s grades remain below 60% after two consecutive weeks, the student will proceed to Step 3 and be referred to the ViP Counselor.
"At the initial SSP meeting, the school will either add, edit, or alter the student’s supports (such as but not limited to tutoring, timing, or other approximate accommodation).
"SSP meetings will be scheduled weekly with parent/family/student and teacher(s) as needed to ensure progress and success increases.
"After two SSP meetings (or communication attempts by the program), with no more than 8 weeks of continued poor performance, the Virtual Instruction Program may discuss the possible need to advance the student to the next level of support; and Academic Support Plan (ASP) with the ViP Counselor." - ViP Participation Agreement, p. 4

Counselor
The ViP Counselor will create an Academic Support Plan (ASP) with the student and Parent/Guardians.
During the ASP meetings, the counselor will emphasize the necessity of maintaining positive grades and attendance. If improvement is not made within the time frame agreed upon in the ASP, the student will proceed to Step 4.
