Training Resources

Overview

According to driver Tom Percival, "We haul the strange and the weird." ... Yep. That pretty much sums it up.

Because of the challenges and risks that accompany the kind of work that you do every day, it's vitally important to stay at the top of your game. The risks to you, to the public, to the customer's load, to our equipment, and to all of our livelihoods is very real. Poor securement, unsafe driving, even just getting lost can all have serious consequences, even if you have gone for years without a slip-up. The resources below are meant to help keep you sharp and to give you quick access to a library of helpful information. As always, if there is anything that you would like to see added, please send your requests to admin@nationalflatbed.com.

Training Highlight - Placement of ElitePass & Dash Cam - 08/20 (1)

You know the feeling. You climb back into your unit after a windshield tech has finished replacing your windshield, and nothing is where it should be - dash cam, transponder, gps, etc. ... sometimes it's all left sitting back on your bunk. Well, when it comes to your transponder and dash cam, it's essential that those go back where they belong. Take a look at the resources below for more information:

ElitePass Device: The transponder must be mounted two inches to the right or left of center and two inches (but not more than three inches) from the bottom of the windshield. It must be positioned so the PrePass label and lights are visible to the driver. If your truck has a right fender spot mirror, we recommend placing it to the left of center to prevent blind spots for that mirror.

Dash Cam: Centered and above the wiper blade sweep.

Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine

Currently, twenty-six counties in Pennsylvania and areas of New Castle County in Delaware are under quarantine to prevent the spread of Spotted Lanternfly, a species of invasive insect that is doing enormous economic damage to the areas where it has been introduced.

Click here for a map of the current quarantine area.

All trucks delivering to or receiving from the quarantine area are required to

1) Carry a Spotted Lanternfly Permit

2) Inspect the truck, and any received cargo, before departing the quarantine area

3) Keep records of all inspections.

Trucks that travel through the quarantine area without stopping are not required to be inspected.

If you are dispatched to receive from or deliver to the quarantine area, an inspection checklist and further training material will be emailed to you at that time. You can also find additional training material below.

Please be aware that this requirement exists and that fines for noncompliance are substantial (up to $20,000).
