Life Threatening Allergies
NATICK PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE ALLERGY AWARE SCHOOLS
Food allergies are a food safety and health concern that affects approximately 8% of children in the United States. In accordance with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and CDC voluntary guidelines, NPS addresses the serious nature of food allergies in school by:
ensuring the daily management of food allergies in school children,
preparing for food allergy emergencies,
providing mandatory professional development training on food allergies for all staff,
educating students about food safety, and
creating and maintaining a healthy and safe educational environment.
If your student has a life threatening allergy to food, latex, and/or insects, you should contact your school nurse as soon as possible to discuss the specifics of your student's allergy.
All students with a life threatening food allergy will have an Individualized Health Care Plan developed with the school nurse and parent/guardian. Please go to Medication Administration page for forms required to keep your student's Epipen in the school clinic.
