Grade 8 to 9 Transition

Throughout the 8th grade school year, students will participate in a variety of different transition events and activities in order to prepare for high school. These events and activities include visiting Keefe Technical High School to learn more about specific trades, meeting with the high school counselors at Kennedy about course selection, and meeting one-on-one with his or her middle school counselor to help tie all of the information together. 

The high school counselors will visit Kennedy in early winter to meet with all 8th graders. The purpose of this visit is to educate the 8th graders about the course selection process and each student's responsibility throughout the process. They will review elective choices, discuss academic levels and answer any questions about the high school. The key takeaway for all students is that selecting courses for high school should be a thoughtful process with the ultimate goal of creating an appropriately balanced educational experience.
