NCHS Stinger Headed to Perform in Hawaii
Nashville High School is proud to announce that NCHS Stinger member, Maliah Riechmann, will represent Varsity Spirit, the global leader in cheerleading, dance team and band apparel, camps and competitions, and a division of Varsity Brands, the market leader in team sports, school spirit and achievement recognition, in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade at the In Honolulu, HI from December 4-9, 2022.
Cheerleaders and dancers who are invited to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade are part of a select group of All-Americans identified at Varsity Spirit summer camps across the country. All-Americans are based on superior cheerleading or dance skills as well as leadership skills at camps operated by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), Universal Dance Association (UDA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), National Dance Alliance (NDA), United Spirit Association (USA) or Urban Cheerleading Experience (UCE). Stingers attended UDA Camp at Greenville College on July 25-28 where she was selected as an All-American. Only the top 12% of the cheerleaders and dancers from Varsity Spirit camps earn the chance to participate in a performance of this caliber.
Maliah will perform with Varsity Spirit All-Americans in an exclusive performance prior to the opening ceremony of the parade, and then be a part of the parade before thousands of fans lining the streets of Waikiki Beach. This trip marks the 81st Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The parade theme is "remembering the past and celebrating our future." We honor our veterans and their families while recognizing that once bitter enemies can become loyal friends and allies.
Besides being able to perform for true national heroes, athletes will have the opportunity to meet cheerleaders and dancers from across that nation and enjoy a memorable trip to the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the USS Missouri Battleship.
Good luck, Maliah, and enjoy the experience!

Senior Reese Varel was invited to the 618 East v. West Game on Sunday, November 13. Reese and her team brought home the "W" for the West. Reese shared some thoughts about her experience. "I loved playing with all new girls who I have always played against in school ball. We clicked instantly and played together really well. My favorite part about it was the competitiveness about it all. We all brought so much energy to our team, and it helped us tremendously to win. It was such a fun thing to be a part of."

Hornette Golfers Clinch Conference
On September 20, 2022, the Hornette Golfers played in the Conference Match at Hickory Ridge in Carbondale, AND for the ninth time in the past twelve years, the Hornette Golf Team has won Conference. The team score was 379, and five out of the six Nashville golfers medaled, highlighted by a Conference Championship by freshman Brynn Stiegman with a score of 87. Junior Shelby Thorson and senior Savannah Downey followed closely behind with scores of 93 and 94. Those scores were good enough for second and third place. Junior Zoe Lopez scored 105 to finish fifth, and freshman Lily Emge scored 114 to finish tenth to round out the All Conference Team. Reflecting on the strong combined teach results, Coach Kell shared that this "team is starting to fire on all cylinders at the right time."
Additionally, Coach Kell shared: "Freshman Brynn Stiegman has done something that only one other Hornette has done, and that is win conference as a freshman." He joked with her telling her: "You can't win all four years if you don't win your freshman year." He shared: "she nervously laughed...[and] the team also got a kick out of watching her reaction when asked for a newspaper interview by The Southern Illinoisan." Coach Kell told her to get used to it as he foresees many more interviews coming in the future for her.
It was so amazing to win as a team, but when I found out I was the Conference champion, I was so excited! I played really well that day, and some of the other girls I played with asked me how I kept going and to be honest with them, it was just golf. I kept playing, and I was playing so well the adrenaline was pumping. I had been preparing for conference for a while as I knew Coach Kell had high expectations for the team. We definitely showed that we were able to compete on such a hard course. My family was very proud of me as well. My late father got me into golf, and I know he was proud. Tomorrow at regionals we just need to focus on what we know, stay positive and have fun. No matter what happens, I will be very proud of my team and myself because we have done so well this season.
~ Brynn Stiegman, '26
Zoe Lopez, Faith Frerker, Brynn Stiegman, Savannah Downey, Shelby Thorson, and Lily Emge
Coach Kell shared: "I am very proud of the girls' effort. Our goal from the beginning of the year was first to win Conference, second to advance through Regional and Sectional, and third, place as many golfers (hopefully a full team) in the State tournament. Goal 1 accomplished."
The Regional is scheduled for Thursday, 9/29/22, and the State Tournament is October 7 - 8, 2022.
