Student Assistance Program

(SAP)

What is Sap?

In Pennsylvania, every school district is required to have a plan for identifying and assisting students who experience barriers to learning. Examples of these barriers include mental health issues, drug or alcohol concerns, peer relational issues, family stress, or attendance problems. Our school’s Student Assistance Program is made up of school and agency staff who work as a team to coordinate interventions for students who have been identified as needing assistance. The Northampton Area High School SAP team helps parents find services and assistance within the school and/or the community, as needed. We do not diagnose or treat your child. We will provide you with information to make the best choice(s) to fit you and your child’s needs. As the parent or guardian you are an important part of the team.

SAP Referrals can be made due to:

  • Declining grades

  • Drop in school attendance

  • Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities

  • Change in friends

  • Acts of aggression

  • Talking about drugs and/or alcohol

SAP referrals can be made by students, staff, or parents
