Literary

Senior Seminar Projects with a literary focus (poetry book, comic book, novel, novella, collection of short stories, translations of fictional works, etc.) must consider the following guidelines.

Requirements:

  • The final product needs to be professionally bound in a manner that is appropriate to the work

  • Student will need to take into consideration production costs for binding and printing

  • Throughout the writing process the student will need to present multiple drafts. The frequency of drafts will be determined by the primary advisor and the student

  • Longer fictional works require a detailed outline to present to the primary advisor and the on-site advisor

  • While it is difficult to set a page number requirement on fictional works, the student will need to produce a work(s) that is acceptable in length (as determined by the primary and on-site advisors, the length needs to be representative of 80 hours of project work)

  • If the work is intended for publication, attention needs to be given to page layout, design and cover art.

  • If secondary sources are used, the student must cite them according to MLA documentation requirements.

All projects require a project related research component. The research component should further enhance the knowledge on the project and/or topic, and, in turn, enable the student to complete his/her project more successfully. It is necessary to choose research that fits the specific project.

  • The Senior Team recommends students electing a Literary project document a minimum of 10 hours of direct instruction/conferencing with their on-site advisor

  • All direct instruction hours completed must be documented on the Verification Form and signed by your on-site advisor
