Every Milwee student follows a full 7-period schedule built around the eight IB MYP subject groups. Four periods are year-long core courses: Language and Literature, Mathematics, Sciences, and Individuals and Societies, with standard, advanced, and high school credit options in many subjects.
The other three periods hold 6 semester electives. Four of those meet the required areas of Arts, Design, Language Acquisition, and Physical and Health Education, and the remaining 2 are entirely your student's choice. Year-long electives, like band or Spanish 1, simply use two of those semesters.
The table below shows what this looks like for each grade. Solid green marks a required course, light green marks a required area where your student chooses the course, and white slots are open for any elective.
The schedule above reflects a full 7-period day, which is what we plan for every Milwee student. Some families choose to have their student take fewer classes with us, such as when a course is taken through Florida Virtual School or through part-time enrollment. We're happy to work with families on these requests through our grade level counselors.
Please keep in mind that we build the master schedule around our full-time students, so we cannot guarantee when an unscheduled period will fall during the day. Students are supervised on campus only while they are in a scheduled class. That means families of students on a reduced schedule are responsible for:
Dropping off late or picking up early when the open period falls at the start or end of the day
Signing the student out and back in through the front office when the open period falls in the middle of the day
Arranging their own transportation when the student has no first period, since arriving by bus would leave the student on campus without a scheduled class
