Welcome to the Spartan family! Once your student's seat is confirmed, join us for Incoming 6th Grade Night on Friday, February 12, 2027. You'll meet our team, learn about course options, and complete your student's course selection for the coming year. If you can't attend, or your student is joining us in 7th or 8th grade, contact our Guidance Secretary, Mrs. Smith, and we'll help you through the process.
Yes! Every year, students take a year-long course in Language and Literature, Mathematics, Sciences, and Individuals and Societies. Students also take at least one semester course in each of Arts, Physical and Health Education, Design, and Language Acquisition. These four count toward the 6 semester electives on each student's schedule. See The IB MYP at Milwee for the full requirements.
Yes! Students and parents can still choose standard and advanced courses, including several high school credit courses. See the course selection sheet and the rest of this Curriculum Guide for details.
Every student takes one semester of Exploratory Spanish each year. The courses build on each other: Beginning comes first, and Intermediate requires completion of Beginning. 8th grade students may instead take Spanish 1, a year-long course that earns high school credit.
Design is where the IB MYP and our magnet program meet. Every 6th grade student takes Learning Pathways to meet the Design requirement and may also choose from several PLTW Gateway courses as additional Design electives. In 7th and 8th grade, students meet the requirement with any Design elective, including hands-on PLTW Gateway courses where they design, build, test, and program real solutions. Students who have not yet taken Learning Pathways take it to meet the Design requirement.
Yes. Families may request a reduced schedule, for example when a student takes a course through Florida Virtual School. Because students are supervised only while in a scheduled class, families are responsible for transportation and pickup or drop-off around any unscheduled period. See Reduced Schedules on the Curriculum Overview page for details.
The IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is an educational framework for students ages 11 to 16. It challenges students to think critically and creatively, connect what they learn to the real world, and become active, compassionate, lifelong learners. Milwee Middle School is a candidate school* for the IB MYP and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. Learn more at The IB MYP at Milwee.
The IB Learner Profile is a set of ten attributes the International Baccalaureate aims to develop in students across all of its programmes. These attributes help students become responsible members of local, national, and global communities. As IB learners, we strive to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
Seminole County Public Schools offers extensive Advanced Placement (AP) options and two IB Diploma Programme (DP) sites. Whichever path a student chooses, the IB MYP builds the critical thinking, research, writing, and communication skills that rigorous high school coursework demands. It also develops the global perspective and intercultural understanding at the heart of the DP.
*Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For more information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org.
