Hi there! My name is Erin Hansen and I am so excited I get the pleasure of working with the most wonderful students in the world. This is my 14th year teaching and I am so happy to be teaching 5th grade this year! My experience includes teaching 3rd grade and 6th grade here at La Madera, in addition to 8th grade science and 4th grade earlier in my career. I absolutely love working in SVUSD and La Madera holds a special place in my heart... I have been a koala since my Kindergarten year. It was in these hallways that I knew I was destined to be a teacher. I was lucky to have some of the most amazing teachers here at La Madera and I'm honored to carry on the tradition of excellent instruction and strong community at this precious school. Yes, I'm home grown, having also attended Serrano Intermediate and El Toro High School.
I received a Bachelors of Science in Child & Adolescent Development from California State University, Fullerton and my Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University, Irvine. I hold three credentials in Multiple Subject Education (Elementary), Foundational Science (Middle School), and Earth and Space Science (High School). I happen to be a bit of a science nerd and love finding ways to embed curiosity and compelling inquiry based learning into our classroom lessons. I have also completed my Gifted and Talented Education certification through the Orange County Department of Ed. I truly believe that all students benefit from the strategies I will be embedding in our classroom lessons, increasing engagement and rigor for all.
I'm also a La Madera parent! My daughter will be in fifth grade this year, and my son will be in second grade. Our kiddos keep my husband and I on our toes, but our house is usually filled with lots of laughter. You'll probably see us around town walking our golden retriever Barkley, on the baseball field, community theater shows, strolling the aisles at Target, in the line at Starbucks or Bagels and Brew (coffee is life), or at school events... please feel free to say hi!
