CYMS School Philosophy
CY continues to foster middle school best practice through a teaming philosophy. CORE teams, composed of 4 to 5 teachers each, will instruct students in math, science, social studies, and language arts. A collaboration period (Professional Learning Community collaboration) will be provided for each team. During the collaboration period the teams will focus on individual student needs/growth/achievement, improving school-parent communication, interdisciplinary connections, curriculum alignment to priority standards, development of proficiency scales and common assessments, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, and planning for activities.
6th and 7th grade programs focus on making a positive and less stressful transition from elementary to the middle level setting. 8th grade will be based on the same interdisciplinary team premise as 6th/7th grades; teams will key in on unique social, emotional, physical, and educational aspects of their grade levels. The goal of 8th grade is to help students make a successful transition from middle school to high school.
Our exploratory/elective teacher teams (E CORE) complement our CORE teams by working together to provide a well-rounded educational experience.
What makes CY Middle School special?

Each grade level has its own separate area that is also split up into two "houses" per grade level.
Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) orientation/transition program for incoming students.
Dedicated Gifted and Talented program.
Our special education teachers co-teach mainstream core classes (inclusion model).
We have up-to-date Career and Technical Education (CTE) labs and a Family and Consumer Science (FACS) room with full kitchen stations.
We offer Destination Imagination (DI) as an elective class.
We have the most World Language offerings of any middle school in Wyoming, including opportunities in Spanish, Russian and Mandarin Chinese.
We are home to the Mandarin Chinese Dual Language Immersion (DLI) middle school program.
CY Middle School (formerly CY Junior High School) opened its doors in the new building for the 2010-2011 school year. Here is a link to an article about it.
The building was designed with natural light and energy conservation in mind. Solar panels on the south side along with a wind turbine on the property provide enough power for all teacher and student computers.
Most spaces are equipped with a light sensor that can prevent certain lights from coming on if it senses an abundance of natural light.
CY has several common spaces where students may gather.
Many elective classes are offered at CY including offerings in CTE, Fine Arts, Physical Education and World Languages.
Several before and after school activities are offered as well as a full list of athletics.
Reading and literacy are a school-wide focus and the library is a great place hang out and read.
CY prides itself in every student having access to and using the latest technology throughout the school.
