AVID

Our Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program provides students who have untapped potential with the additional skill sets that they need to get into college and excel in a higher-education environment. 

Students who want to join the AVID class must apply to the program. Click here to access the AVID application. You must be logged onto your student @stu.mylusd.org email to complete the application, and the application process includes a teacher nomination (completed through a Google form), and a brief interview at a later date.

Once accepted, students participate in the following course components:

● Study skills, such as note-taking

● Learning to study in groups

● Academic writing

● Tutorials run by trained college students

● Preparation for meeting college entrance requirements and college visits

● Field trips and guest speakers

Year 2 AVID (8th Grade): Students who completed the AVID elective course in 7th grade are recommended for the AVID 8 Elective.
