LPSD Title VI Indian Education

The primary goal of the Lafourche Parish Indian Education Department is to empower the students with skills that will ensure a quality education, while preserving Native American culture.


Student Eligibility:

  • Students are eligible if they are enrolled or have a parent or grandparent enrolled in a recognized tribe

  • Students must claim tribal membership through one of the following categories:

-Federal recognized tribe

-State recognized tribe

-Tribes must be indigenous to the United States

  • A valid 506 form signed and dated by the parent or guardian

  • Once completed and accepted, 506 forms are good for the duration of the student's enrollment of the LEA


Services Provided:

  • After-school tutoring

  • Cultural Enrichment Activities and Field Trips

  • ACT/College Prep Courses and support

  • Scholarship Information

  • Provide Native language instruction, tribal history instruction and culturally designed summer camps

  • Providing information on education opportunities post high school
