The Mitchell's vs. The Machines

Movie Review

By: Araceli Meza Cruz

Have you watched the Mitchell's vs. The Machines movie?

Well, Mitchell's vs. The Machines is a new Netflix original movie. This movie is perfect for watching with family, and has scenes a lot of us can relate to. For example, being on technology and how it can break a family apart. The Mitchell's vs. The Machines is a really fun movie that follows a family called the Mitchell's and shows their struggles as a family and how they overcome it by coming together and fighting machines. This movie had an amazing plot and the characters each had thought-out personalities of their own. The only flaw of this movie would be the ending because the characters bring up something, but do nothing with the newfound information. The Mitchell's vs. The Machines is a highly recommended movie towards families and people who like to feel like they are on a roller coaster of emotions. Many people could agree that the Mitchell's vs. The Machines is a must-watch and a classic in the makings.

Prom night..A night to remember.

...Okay it’s prom-ably not a night to remember.

By someone who laughs at horror movies: Tashina bond

Horror movies. You either love, hate, or love-hate movies. But most of us have seen at least 1+ horror movie in our lives. There’s one on netflix that is probably some of yall seen. Prom night. Prom night is a pg-13 horror movie. This movie is about an ex teacher killer who has killed the family of a girl named Donna in an attempt to force a relationship with them (which is illegal but...okay). He got caught then sent to prison. Blah blah blah time passes when donna goes to high school prom she will face the murderer again. Will she and her friends escape the yandere? Find out next time on “Prom night”. Or...right now so that you don’t have to waste your time with this.

!DISCLAIMER!: if you’re planning to watch this and you’re under the age of 13, please, ask your parents/guardians. Any side effects like nightmares, crying, can’t be alone for 1 minute or anything else, please contact...somebody. Some of the trauma you might have is not this writer's fault. Why? Since You’ve been warned! Also..spoilers incoming. Enjoy...you’ll need it (:

Pro-ms:

-Bit funny

This movie has a bit of funny/cheesy moments to remember to make you laugh at least once or twice maybe.

-Decent Cinematography (means the art of making motion pictures)

It has fine cinematography through-out the movie. It’s not the best but also far from the worst that you’ll see

-a bit emotional

If you’re a person who cries at emotional stuff like how mufasa died in lion king This movie is at least somewhat sad to watch...a bit,

Cons-Trol

-Boring

If you’re looking for some actual exciting action, you should watch a different movie since Prom night is very predictable and...plain-ish.

-Bruh it’s not even scary

We all love horror movies because it’s scary, right (even though that's the point of horror movies-)? Well this is not even close to scary, it cuts all and if not most of the gruesome scenes + shows little to no blood in the killing scenes. Fine thriller movie, but not really horror. Little kids could watch it and not be scared.

-bad writing/plot

(from the reviews) From some of the reviews it has a terrible plot in this movie. Well it’s true. Some of them wished it showed how the teacher became obsessed with the student instead of going straight into “action.”

So overall, it’s a 2/5 for this writer

Google reviewers average: 3.2/5

What’s your favorite type of movie?

Links: haha what are links? The only link I know is from the legend of zelda.

Lights, Camera, Action! Broadway shows are coming back to walk on the red carpet!

By the “”star”” of seussical the musical: Tashina bond

You know, ever since you know what thing, everything’s been closed for a year and people have been fighting for toilet paper and other items. Well, now everything’s reopening again because of a hand sanitizer like vaccine but instead of killing 99.9% germs, it kills 99.99999999….% germs! One of the things that are reopening this year is Broadway, which some musical theatre fans are happy about! Let’s see some of the musicals, shall we?

Alexander... Hamilton

Like the song “You’ll be back”, Hamilton the hip hop musical (that’s about the founding father...humanities lessons intensifies) is coming back to us. But even though they aren’t exactly open, the tickets are selling faster than Alexander dying. The tickets start at $149 (you know how much you can buy with 149$? You can buy a whole small shrine of your favorite character...no? okay-) on ticketmaster. (Link for tickets will be at the end of this article)

Wicked🔮

After the WICKED year 2020, this broadway show is about two witches who struggle with each other’s personalities, view points, etc. the 2 main characters are Elphaba the wicked witch of the west, & galinda (forgot how to spell her name...she changes her name to glinda) the good witch. This is also based on the wizard of oz. The tickets for this show are 89$.

Six👑

One of this writer's favorite musicals, six is a well….you know. This is about the six wives (wives if wifes in british) of Henry Viii to take the mic that remixed over 5 hundred years of.. what the website said “historical heartbreak into an exuberant (cheerful/bouncy) celebration of the 21st century girl power!” the ticket price for this show is $79 dollars (why is everything over 50$ :’) so SIX-k of this).

Some side characters that are also opening + ticket price 🎶

Aladdin with $57.50 (oof), Tina turner musical with $99, Phantom of the opera with $29 (put an f in the nonexistent chat), Lion king with $99, chicago with $49.50, Mj:The musical with tickets that are...unknown (okay but they’ll start selling by May 18th) and the music man with $99.

It’s been a wicked year, but now we have some six-k musicals to listen to, make sure you note that so you can have a historical year that makes sense! (yeah already made these puns but still-). What’s your favorite musical?

Apex Legends Season 9 Review

By: Christian Olivares

Season 9 of Apex Legends was released on the fourth of may and many people were excited about this because there are a lot of new things. If you aren’t familiar with Apex Legends it is a battle royale game that was released in early 2019. Season 9 had a lot of many good things added but there were also many bugs that most players have experienced. The most notable bug was the sounds with weapons and gunfire as many players reported that there was almost no sound when firing a weapon. This led to many players including myself being furious at EA.

A lot of players that logged in these days to Season 9 noticed that their apex packs randomly disappeared out of nowhere but respawn and EA are working to solve this issue as soon as possible.

Now that all of the bad things are out of the way let’s talk about the good and new things added. The most anticipated mode, which is called “arenas”, was released which is not like the battle royale mode. Arenas is a 3v3 game mode which shares a lot of similarities to CSGO, such as buying weapons before the start of a game and having multiple rounds. This new mode has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the community and I,myself, like it because it is fresh and fun to play with friends. Now let’s talk about the battle pass and everything it brought this season. The battle pass this season was not the best in my opinion but it was decent to say the least and many players said the same. This battle pass didn’t bring anything new as it has been almost the same for the past seasons just that they’ve obviously have changed some of the cosmetics. Three things I really liked about this battle pass was the theme, skins, and the banner frames.

The theme of this season was Chinese and all of the skins had a Chinese theme, which I really like and the banner frames were also Chinese themed. It’s not a new season without a new legend and this new legend is named Valkyrie. Valkyrie makes her unique to other legends because of her abilities and new style of movement and combat.

Do you know how close we are from becoming high school students? We are just 5 weeks away. You should put everything you have into these last few weeks and try your hardest to not fall behind in any class and here's why...

These last few weeks are the most important ones because everything you do depends on whether you prompt or not. In 8th grade you don’t really get held back for any reason, but it could happen. If you were to fail core subjects like English, Math, and Science you are in more danger of flunking than if you fail music, art, or any other elective. Your school record follows you everywhere you go, and retention is a bad track for your record.

We’re not saying you have to be perfect and finish with straight A’s. Although that would be great if you do, but at least strive for a 3.0 or above. Let’s leave KLA with a good note.

After all our hard work these past few years, we are almost done and ready to start high school. Yes it has been stressful but it’s worth it at the end when you walk across that stage while your family cheers you on. After studying for exams, completing homework assignments, and taking all those notes during lessons, you're almost done. You worked so hard up until now, don’t give up yet. Testing is coming up and you are probably going to get lazy but it’s okay, try your hardest and finish strong. We just have to keep this up for 5 more weeks. Our bodies are going to want to give up on us because of the thought that summer is closer than ever.

From Girlhood To Womanhood

By Natalie Rodriguez

In many religions and cultures, there’s a different way to celebrate becoming a woman.

Many American families celebrate their daughter’s when they are becoming young lady’s with a Sweet 16. A Sweet 16 is a party which is celebrated on a teenagers 16th birthday, a Sweet 16 is celebrated with friends and family. Sweet 16’s are mostly celebrated in America and Canada. During your Sweet 16 you can do many things to celebrate.

In many Hispanic cultures they celebrate their young lady’s with a Quinceanera. A quinceanera is a party for 15 year old girls. While having your quinceanera you go through a semi religious ceremony. Quinceaneras are usually big parties like weddings or other big parties. Quinceaneras are celebrated with many different themes and big dresses in many different colors.

There is no official ceremony or celebration/party but after puberty, Muslim teens are considered adults and do things the same as adults such as wearing a hijab, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and joining their daily prayers.

Catholic teens are established in their faith as one of the three most important ceremonies, although they are not legally adults they are now adults in the eyes of the church.

At the age of 13 Jewish teens take part in a ceremony called the Bat Mitzvah. 13 year old girls celebrate the Bat Mitzvah (daughters of commandment). Although they are not adults yet this event has great traditional importance.

Becoming a woman is a great thing.

Celebrating Religious Holidays During COVID

By: Yoselyn Reyes Barrera

Do you or have you still been celebrating religious holidays during the pandemic? Well if you haven’t let me tell you a little bit about celebrating religious holidays during a global pandemic.

Although we’re in a pandemic, religious traditions are still celebrated. Some of the religious holidays are Easter, Christmas, Diwali, and Shavuot. Although the pandemic is going on these holidays are still continuing just a little bit different.

EASTER also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday. Before covid was a thing, families would get together, hide eggs and let the kids find them. Now that covid is here families tend to gather the least amount of people possible. Like just the main family to avoid a lot of contact with other people. They still hide the eggs for kids to have fun and it’s just not the same.

CHRISTMAS every family has their own way of celebrating every holiday or certain. For christmas some families gather to spend time together until it hits 12am, then they open presents. People still did the same thing last year with the whole covid situation but like I said before they tend to have less people over.

DIWALI people would celebrate this religious holiday by lighting lights in a line but now they just light up lights at their homes with their family.

SHAVUOT is a three day holiday. Translated means “weeks.” This religious holiday was celebrated with music festivals, exhibitions, and family/friends events. But now that covid is here there is no festival or events. People just celebrate with their family and friends. They do something little not that big because of the pandemic.

If you haven’t noticed yet… every single holiday had its own way of being celebrated but those times changed. Now there can’t be a certain number of people in one room, we have to keep our distance, we have to wear masks. Things haven’t been the same since covid has joined up but that doesn't mean we can’t celebrate the religious holidays or any special day. Just keep up with the precautions.

Teacher Appreciation Week!

By: Yoselyn Reyes Barrera

Teacher appreciation is next week. Have you thought of any ways you can show love and appreciation to your teacher(s)? Well if you haven’t let me tell you, why you should show them some love and some ways you can show them appreciation.

You’re probably asking yourself why we should appreciate our teachers for teaching us if that is their job. Well did you know that teachers aren’t forced to give us extra credit, put up with our bad behaviors, help us by being there for us when we’re having our rough times. But they still do all these things because they care for each and everyone of their students. Most teachers cry of happiness when they see their students walk across that stage. Teachers miss their students when they’re on break. Teachers are like a second family. You see them 7 hours a day, they teach you things you’ll need to know in the future. They technically take care of you as if they were your parents.

Yes, there might be days where they’ll get on your nerves and you’ll say that you hate them. But at the end of the day you will notice that everything they did or said to you, it was just to push you towards the best and next chapter in your life.

There are many ways to appreciate your teachers. For example you can write/email them a letter, thank them, or make a poster. You don’t even have to do anything for them. Just by getting all your work done, getting up all your grades, and being respectful to them will make them happy.

Remember that teachers have feelings too, and everything they teach you is because you’re going to need to know later in life. They are just pushing you towards success. Teachers have to deal with us for a whole year. Let’s take a week to appreciate everything they have done for us.

McDonald's Celebrity Meals🍟

By: Araceli Meza Cruz

If you've missed out on the Travis Scott and J Balvin meals do not fret another celebrity meal is coming to McDonald's.

On April 19 of 2021, McDonald's revealed The BTS Meal. The BTS meal had fans excited but also very confused about this unexpected collaboration.

The BTS meal consists of a medium Coke, medium fries, 10 piece chicken nuggets, and new sauces.

McDonald's has recently started to collaborate with celebrities to figure out what they order to repackage a meal under the celebrities’ name.

On September 3 of 2020 the Travis Scott combo was announced. The combo had a Quarter Pounder, fries, barbecue sauce, and Sprite. This combo had fans of the artist and even non-fans making memes of the meal, saying that if you ate the Travis Scott meal your voice would magically come out sounding auto-tuned. This was in connection to the meme that Travis Scott is most well known for when he fell down his concert stage while auto-tune was still on.

McDonald's then tried to do this exact thing with J Balvin. The J Balvin meal was announced on October 5 of 2020. The meal included an Oreo McFlurry, Big Mac, and fries.

The meals have been helpful for people that can't afford expensive food while simultaneously giving a spotlight to artists of color.

People are looking forward to seeing who McDonald's will give a spotlight to next. Are you ready?

Since the Pandemic, We’ve Been Friends and All...So Can I Put My Minecraft Bed Next To Yours?

By a girl gamer: Tashina Bond

Most of us love games. Ever since the first video game in 1958 got released, Video games quickly became one of the most things we play in the world like 9 year olds saying “1v1 me bro” in Fortnite to furries playing Roblox. Some people disagree and say that video games can rot your brain or are bad for your health. But some of it is not true (or at least some of it is not)! One of the benefits to gaming is friends! (Don’t say “what are friends? I don’t have any.” You have friends, you have this writer as your stranger friend).

Player 2

The amount of friends people make online is probably more than you think. More than half of teens have made friends online, 36% of them said they met their new friend(s) through video games. 57% of boys gained friends online while girls only gained 13% of friends online. Here’s a super quick example: You’re playing Overwatch (dead game but-). Your character is genji while another player is mercy. You figure out you 2 get along well then one of you decides to friend each other. Blah blah blah then you guys are friends!

Virus uses Stay at home: Target: Video games: It’s ineffective!

Ever since The virus showed up as the final boss, people think that it’ll affect everything. Well it did. The only thing that wasn’t affected (if not then affected positively) is…….. Video games! For 1+ year people believe it or not…. Still play video games 😱.

Friday Night Funkin and Roblox makes, Funky Friday

By: Josh Onyeise

There’s this new game that came out on Roblox and it’s called Funky Friday. It’s basically Friday Night Funkin but you get to compete against players. In the game, you can customize your settings for the best gameplay to win. Doing this will help you improve your gameplay to win. First, what keybinds will you use to match the arrows? Keybinds are the controls on a keyboard or a controller you customize to play a game and to get used to them. Should you use WASD or the Arrow buttons on your keyboard? The answer is no, you shouldn’t use those types of keybinds. Customize your own keybinds and make sure you play frequently to get used to those keybinds. Make sure the keybinds you use are comfortable and easy to play. One recommendation is using ASKL. This kind of keybind is playable for most players. Next, is your arrow speed. Your arrow speed needs to be between 0.25 and 4. Choosing a slow arrow speed will result in your arrows going very slow which means it will be hard for you to match so many arrows. If you put the arrow speed at least at 1.7, you’ll have fewer arrows and it will be faster and easier, you just have to get used to it. After, once you feel advanced, crank up the speed a bit to challenge yourself. If you’ve played Friday Night Funkin and you’ve Friday Night Funkin Mods, you already know all the songs. Fnf, B Side, Neo, Whitty, Hex, and more. Equip animations, get the most points, and have the highest score in Funky Friday. Over 34,600 people are playing Funky Friday, so give it a try. Do you have what it takes to win a rap battle?

Autism Awareness Day

By:Anyra Morales

How much do you really know?

Let me ask you one thing. How much do you really know about autism? If you know a little bit of information, Autism Awareness Day is a great day to learn facts and if you have questions maybe you’ll get answers. The purpose of Autism Awareness Day is to raise awareness you see it matches with the name. Autism Awareness Day is on April 2. So don’t be scared to be shy to show a little bit of support.

The idea was first mentioned in 2007 but that idea wasn’t made official until a year later in 2008. Here are some symptoms of autism.

  • Poor Eye Contact

  • Tics

  • Anxiety

  • Sensitivity To Sound

  • Problem paying attention

  • Learning Disability

  • Repetitive Movements

  • Impulsivity

  • Speech delay

There are many more symptoms but those are some of the most common. Even though both genders can be affected it is more common for males. Babies for 0-2 is very rare to be diagnosed; it is most common for toddlers to adults ages 3-60. Seniors can also be diagnosed but it is also rare. This condition can’t be cured but it can be treated. There are two main treatments and they are therapy and medication that doctors give you specifically.

You may be wondering how you can support people with Autism. The answer to that is that you could wear the awareness color which is blue. Not only that but it also has ‘The Rainbow Spectrum”, “The Butterfly”, “The Puzzle Piece”,Ect. You can also support by researching on the internet.

Earth Day

By Jesse Contreras

As we all know we live on a planet called Earth. There is a holiday called Earth Day that is on Thursday, April 22nd. This day is pretty much a day where everyone tries to be as kind as possible to the earth by recycling and doing environmentally friendly stuff. Even though this should be done every day some people mostly do it only on this day.

Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22nd of 1970 even though it was conceived in 1960. That means it took 10 years for this idea to take place. Earth Day was created by the Senator of Wisconsin whose name was Gaylord Nelson. Even since the day it was created, Earth Day was criticized by people who didn't believe it was a necessary holiday like Easter and Christmas. More than 100 billion pieces of junk mail are sent and this just goes to show how much paper is wasted. Over 20 million people participated on the first official Earth Day.

We all know that keeping the Earth clean is very important and we have to do this every day, not just one day out of 365. If we do not keep the earth clean it will become harder and harder for us and our future generations to continue living on this earth and that isn't a good thing for our future family. So just remember to try to clean the earth and keep it safe whenever you get a chance.

Why do we procrastinate And how can we stop it?

By : Antonio Gudino

One of the main reasons why we procrastinate has to do with ourselves, and our mental state, if we're stressed we tend to push things aside and procrastinate. Procrastination is not a good thing although it is normal, we should learn how to stop procrastinating and start to learn how to not only plan things ahead, but to get things done. When we procrastinate we don't get things done and the more we push things aside, the more responsibilities start to pile up. This leads to a lot more procrastination and work. So, basically, if you procrastinate now, you'll be in a cycle of procrastination and stress for a while.

Tips and tricks

If you would like to stop procrastinating here are some helpful tips on what you can do, just remember not all of these work for everyone, some might not work for and that’s fine, you can always find a way that works best for you. Do You Know What The True Meaning Of Easter Is?

By Natalie Rodriguez

How do you celebrate Easter? Egg hunts, family time, church, shopping? To some people Easter is more about religion, to others it is more about having fun with family and friends, sometimes even both. Easter is on Sunday, April 4th. Easter first started during the 2nd century. There are many ways to celebrate Easter, no matter if you're celebrating for your religion or just to have fun.

For some people Easter is more about going to church because Easter is the day where Jesus came back from the dead, his resurrection, also known as Resurrection Sunday or Pascha, this happened 3 days after his burial. Easter is a Christian holiday where they celebrate their belief in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Some people go to church on Easter and some read the Bible at home.

On the other hand, some people just celebrate Easter for fun, no special meaning other than the Easter Bunny, probably just a normal Sunday for others. People celebrate Easter with egg hunts, painting eggs, fun games, making Easter baskets, doing a cookout, and spending time with family and friends.

Sometimes people even celebrate for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and also to have fun like egg hunts and family time. They go to church and after, meet up with family and friends to do something fun and celebrate.

How do you plan on spending Easter?

Somebody once told me , April Fool’s gonna roll me, I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shedddddd!

By Tashina Bond who has a shape of an L on her forehead...well.

We all love trolling people to annoy people or to see their reaction. The person noticed this and thought “Hey, we should make April 1st a official day to troll people.” Okay, maybe they didn’t think it like that..maybe. Wonder which day is the worst to propose on tough...might be April Fools’ day. (Hopefully you get the joke). But, it’s nice to have a whole day dedicated to troll/pranks people.

April Fools:

AFD is an annual custom that consists of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters often would expose their sneaky actions by saying “April Fools!” at the recipient. Mass media can be involved in these pranks, which can be revealed in the following day. One Example is when Youtube themselves got rickrolled/owned by a guy named Ethan (Even though it wasn’t April Fools' Day when that happened but still.)

Smol-ish history summary:

On April 1st (also called All fools day) 1700, pranksters (or sansters) begin popularizing the tradition by playing jokes on each other. The origin to this day stays a mystery. Some historians speculate to 1852 when France switched calendars who also got called for by Trance in 1563. People who were slow to get the news would celebrate it to the last week of March to April 1st. AF spread throughout Britain during the 18th century.

Fool “facts” about..stuff (That was discovered somewhere in April):

-The sun is flat. This was discovered by Elon Musk on April 1st.

- T-series is better than Pewdiepie (wait what does this have to do with-)

-Thyme is a Tree. (okay, we don’t have Thyme for this)

-Bubbles have a seam (It seems we have changed to another topic)

-The banana tree is the tallest growing grass in the world.

This writer found this very ap-peel-ing.

-All of these facts are not true. (wow best fact there is)
