Get to know the KLA Cougars!

Welcome to our KLA Journalism class, also known as The Daily Cougar. Here we will talk all about our KLA Journalism community and how it has grown. We want to let you know that here in our Journalism class we talk about the latest updates, latest trends, and what's happening in our school. In Journalism, we follow the cougar community guidelines of KLA. Our tasks and goals for Journalism are very important to us and hopefully it will be to you, too.


Monaza Sayame, 8th- Editor in Chief

Monaza has been a student in KLA for 3 years now. She started off with 6th grade at Keiller Leadership Academy and made her way up to 8th grade. A fact about her is that she is from Afghanistan and the only 8th grader that speaks Persian. She chose journalism for this year of 2020-2021 because according to her, she wanted to take different interests to explore new things and determine what skills and qualities she can develop in journalism. Monaza’s role in journalism is Editor in Chief to make sure everyone is doing their job with her partner Julien Consuelo who is an Assistant Editor. They work together and are like mini bosses for Ms. Loke that take charge whenever Ms. Loke is not available. Monaza’s future goal is to become a cardiovascular surgeon and help people. Her goals for journalism is to make sure everyone enjoys what they are doing and make the best out of the class. She hopes everyone is having fun this year and continues to pursue their dreams.



Julien Consuelo, 8th- Copy/Asst. Editor

Julien has been attending KLA for 2 years now and is currently in 8th grade. This means he will be this year’s class of 2021! He chose Journalism this year because he wanted to be part of KLA’ many voices, which will report reliable and accurate news to all KLA families and the community. He also chose Journalism this year because he wanted to “try something new,” and out of his norm. One general goal that Julien has is to be able to fulfill the dream of reaching his dream career so that he can be able to help people just like you. One academic goal Julien has this year is to be able to promote from 8th grade, and to be successful for the rest of his school years and beyond!



Christian Olivares, 8th- Web Editor
“My ambition is always to get better and better” -Lionel Messi.
Christian is a 13 year old 8th grader at KLA. Christian has attended KLA since Kindergarten which makes that his 9th and final year at KLA. Christian didn’t choose Journalism but he got it this year. So far he likes it because it’s new for him and he likes new experiences. His role in Journalism is Web Editor along with Joshua. The reason he chose this role was because he thought it would be a good experience. So far he thinks it's been a good experience and he is glad he chose the role. Christian’s goal for the future is to have a good job even though he hasn’t decided what career he wants to pursue when he grows up. Christian’s academic goal for this school year is to get a 3.5 or greater GPA and a 3.0 or greater CPA. His goal for Journalism is for everyone to work their best so the Journalism class can be good.
Joshua Onyeise, 8th- Web Editor
Josh is currently an 8th grader and has been at KLA for 9 years. He has so much inspiration from his family because his family always wants to encourage him to move forward. His mom once said, “keep moving forward and always be goal oriented. Follow your goals and don’t let anyone get in the way of your goals.” Josh always completes his work every night and never complains about how big it is. Josh didn’t choose journalism, but he has experience with creating websites before and he can do it again. It’s going to be different for him since he’s in journalism. Either way, he looks forward to learning a lot in journalism. Josh’s goal in general is to be a content creator on YouTube. Josh’s goal in school is to get a standard met in a math state test because it would be the first time getting a good standard for him in a math state test. He never gives up on any work. He always does it every night and he doesn't complain about it even if it's a huge thing to do. Josh looks forward to learning more skills in journalism and is looking forward to all the good possibilities that may come his way.



Antonio Gudino, 8th- Video Editor
He does not have a favorite quote, but he is inspired by his own mistakes and tries to do better each time. His name is Antonio Gudino, and he has been at KLA since kindergarten, about 8 years now. He has had a good stay in KLA. It has been a very nice place for him to learn new things. His current grade level is 3.9 GPA and 4.00 CPA. He joined journalism because he wants to learn more about editing, so that he could help his cousin who loves to do things like editing and creating. His goals for this year are to get a 4.00 GPA and a 4.00 CPA. A personal goal that Antonio has is to make money off his favorite hobby, drawing. He hopes to do well in journalism and learn some new things that could help him achieve his goals.



David Cardenas, 8th- Video Editor
¨Nothing is impossible!¨ This is the quote that David lives by because he believes that if you put your mind to something anything is possible. David is in the eighth grade and has attended KLA for four years. He has been here since the fifth grade. This is his first year in journalism and he is a video editor. He hopes to make quality videos for everyone. His goal for this year is to graduate with good grades in all of his classes. His goal for journalism is to be a good editor and to deliver people the news.

Hector Sabino Guerrero, 8th- Video Editor
Hector is a good student and he has good grades. He is also good at video games he plays War Zone, Minecraft, Fortnite he sometimes played competitively. He respects his fellow classmates and teachers; he is also a member of the community; he sometimes plays soccer and softball with family and friends.He also usually stays inside and when he goes out it is at a family members house where he knows he can't get Corona.He does not have many friends but he makes the most out of the friends he does have.He is funny and pretty tall he usually makes a lot of jokes that are funny.He is nice to most people unless you are meant to him first.
Dalaiah Chables, 8th- Design Editor

Dalaiah is an 8th grader and has been here since 6th grade. Dalaiah chose Journalism this year because she enjoyed being in Journalism last year. Her role this year will be as a Design Editor for the KLA news site. One of her goals for the future is to become a Videogame Designer. One goal for Journalism this year is to do a great job making templates for the KLA news site.



Sergio Ramirez Garcia, 8th- Design Editor “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.”-Joseph StalinSergio Ramirez Garcia has been a student at Keiller Leadership Academy for 2 years, and is currently an 8th grader. This year, in journalism, he is a design editor, meaning he does cool templates and fonts so the website doesn't look like a boring document. He chose journalism as a second choice in case he didn’t get PLTW (spoiler alert), and he wanted to know how it is. Although this is his first time doing journalism, he hopes to get the best out of the experience. His general goal is to have a great experience and his journalism goal is to learn how to do his job right.



Luis Martinez, 8th- Photo Editor
Luis is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade this year. He has attended this school since he was in second grade. Something that Luis expects to take from this class is better photo editing skills and to start learning new words to use so he can write better paragraphs and get good grades in this class when he needs to write paragraphs like this. One of his goals for the future is that he is hoping to accomplish running a mile faster than the time of 5:13 once school is back on campus. Another general goal Luis is hoping to accomplish is getting good grades, for example: 3 or 2 A’s at least and nothing less than B. Luis has one goal for Journalism and his goal is to become a good photo editor for Journalism and to provide engaging photos for his team’s articles. Luis might have no inspirational quotes in mind but he does focus a lot on fairness so if he ever finds a quote about fairness he's sure it will inspire him.



Itzel Cedillo, 8th- Photo Editor/Cougar Spotlight Writer

Itzel's family have always reminded her of this quote because they wouldn’t want her to be a bad person in life. Itzel is in 8th grade and has been at KLA for 9 years. She cannot be more excited to leave KLA. Journalism wasn't her first choice, but she is ready to face the challenges that come along with the class. She also likes trying new things. This year her goal is to be able to get her work done in time and improve in areas that she isn't great in. Another goal she has is being able to get an A in journalism. A general goal that Itzel has is to be able to finish school and get a good job to help her family when they need it. Family is something very important to her and she enjoys spending every day and time with them.
Tatianna Sexton, 8th- Reporter
“You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated”. -Maya Angelou Tatianna has been at KLA for 2 years and is in 8th grade. She chose Journalism because she wanted to see a change in her writing and try out a new elective she never did before, as well as working with peers that she never worked with before. Tatianna’s role in Journalism is reporting. She chose to report because she wants to come out of her comfort zone and not be so shy around people. Her goals for the future are to learn a skill which is developing better writing skills in journalism, getting good grades/better grades towards the end of the school year, get better at planning projects or tasks, and improve in a hobby. Her academic goals are to promote with a 3.0 or more, set herself a standard where she doesn't pass, and study for every time she has a test. A general goal she has for herself is to promote and do big things in high school that will get colleges to recognize her. Her goals for journalism are to learn more about news and get better with writing, all while keeping a positive mindset.



Jesse Contreras, 8th- Reporter

Jesse is 13 years old and has been going to Keiller Leadership Academy for about 9 years now. Journalism wasn't Jesse's first choice this year, however he's going to make the most of it. He decided to became a reporter like he was last year. Jesse’s goals for Journalism would be to get a good grade so he does not get in trouble with his parents. Another one of his goals would be to beat every deadline.
Dakada Drew, 8th- Reporter

Dakada has been attending Keiller Leadership Academy since Kindergarten. Now he is in 8th grade getting prepared for high school. Dakada did not choose Journalism, but is still happy to be a part of it. Dakada is excited to work in Journalism. Dakada’s goal is to be a good student. His goal in Journalism is to complete all work due before the deadline. Dakada does not have much experience in Journalism, but he is a determined student. He tries his best and will give his best effort in Journalism. Dakada is excited for this school year and he wants to be the best student he can be. His position in Journalism is reporter and he is very comfortable with being on camera.
Ocean Riem, 8th- Reporter
Their name is Ocean. They are in 8th grade and they have been at KLA for 3 years. They chose Journalism because they did it last year and liked it. Their role is reporter. Their goal for this year is to get at least a B and E in every class.

Mohammad Ali, 8th- Reporter

Mohammed Ali is an 8th grader who has attended KLA for 5 years. The reason he chose journalism was because he’s had some experience last year back in 7th grade and also because it’s really fun and his position is a reporter. A goal he has for journalism is to be in at least 10 videos. His goal for the future is to maybe start a business.
Macie Bautista, 8th- Blogger

Macie is in 8th grade and has been going to Keiller Leadership Academy for 9 years now. Journalism wasn't Macie's first choice (art was), however because of Covid-19, she was added to the Daily Cougar team. Even though journalism wasn't her first choice, she plays her part as a blogger in the journalism class. She writes about different topics and different ways to help her peers through the blog section on the website. Her current goal is to get good grades, however her ultimate goal is to become a salutatorian. Lastly, her goal for journalism would be to complete work by the deadline given.
Tashina Bond, 8th- Blogger

Tashina is an 8th grader whose in her 3rd and final year at KLA. She’s been mostly known with the title “The School’s singer.” She was in Journalism last year and she thought it was fun! Even tho she didn’t choose this elective, she expects this class to be fun and informative like last year! Tashina’s role is a Blogger, so she’ll be giving her opinion on the topics that she chooses throughout the year. One fact about Tashina is that she speaks a little bit of Chinese and Japanese. Her general goal for this year is to play piano and improve on her singing. Her goal for Journalism is to improve on her writing skills to make stories even better! She can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!



Anyra Morales, 7th- Writer

Anyra has been going to KLA for 2 years now she is now in the 7th grade. (An-ira) that’s how you pronounce it. She chose to go into journalism this year because she loves to read and write and for some reason she likes to keep up with what is going on around the world. One goal she has is get her work done and keep up with her classes. Another goal is to not give up even when things are really bad.
Yoselyn Reyes Barrera, 8th- Writer “No matter how you feel… get up dress up, show up and never give up.” - Regina Brett
Yoselyn Reyes Barrera is a 13 year old 8th grader at Keiller Leadership Academy. But she prefers just being called Yoselyn Reyes. This year it would be her third and last year attending KLA. Yoselyn didn’t choose Journalism at first, but seems to be enjoying the class. She decided to stay in Journalism because she thinks that Journalism is going to help her improve on her writing. Yoselyn’s role in Journalism is a writer. One of Yoselyn’s goals is to finish up the year and walk across the stage at promotion. A goal she has for Journalism is to finish all her articles on time, and maintain her grade at an A or B.
Natalie Rodriguez, 8th- Writer
"Actions speak louder than words."
This quote has got to be one of Natalie's favorite quotes because it's true in its meaning. Although not everyone remembers what you said they still remember what you did. Natalie is an 8th grade student and has been at KLA since Kindergarten. So, that is 9 years in total. Journalism wasn't Natalie's first choice, however, she enjoys her role as a writer, especially because writing is something she enjoys to do. One of Natalie's goals is to be successful in life and to work as an OBGYN or a Pediatric Surgeon. Her academic goal is to have good grades throughout the years and to be able to go to college.
Araceli Meza Cruz, 8th- Writer
“No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, gender identity, speak yourself,” -Kim Namjoon (BTS) Araceli Meza Cruz is 13 years old in 8th grade. Araceli has attended Keiller Leadership Academy since the start of 6th grade in 2017. Araceli joined Journalism in 7th grade and thought it was really exciting and interesting. The reason why Araceli has stayed in Journalism is because she likes that she can talk about whatever she finds interesting and informative. Araceli's goal for 8th grade is to be prepared, and learn everything she needs to know for 9th grade. Araceli's goal for Journalism is to be a good blogger and photo editor, who is never biased when reporting on something, and always does her assignments on time. Additional facts about Araceli is that she loves to listen to BTS, eat spicy chips most preferably Hot Cheetos and Takis, read web toons, money, and more. Araceli really likes being in Journalism even though she’s really shy, but Journalism makes her step out of her comfort zone helping her get stronger. In conclusion Araceli hopes to be a good blogger and photo editor that others can look up to.
