Both of these designs are advertisements for popular food products. On the left is the Hawaii Coca cola ad that I made near the beginning of the semester. It is a very simple design with the Coca cola logo and the slogan. To most locals this design looks super tacky and plastic however my goal for this piece was to attract tourists with the "paradise" feeling. The second design on the right is a more recent design that I made for Häagen-Dazs ice cream. To me this design looks much more professional and something I could see hanging in the window of a ice cream shop.
These two designs are very contrasting next to each other. For the Coca cola ad I just found a photo and logo on the internet. For the Häagen-Dazs ad I used a vectored frottage in the background to fit the deconstructavist theme along with the swirls and scattered logo lettering. The frottage was originally to give the design more texture but it ended up reminding me of chocolate chunk which fit my theme perfectly.
Since I was new to design the first ad was very simple, I used google drawings to create it. During this design I learned how to use simple editing on google drawings like changing the transparency of a photo. I also used a Coca cola font generator to create my slogan. For my second design I used google drawing and apps on my phone. I got a vectoring app to cut out the ice cream bar and the frottages I used in my other decontructavist ad. I also vectored the Häagen-Dazs logo and cut out each letter to make the scattered font along with the swirls for layering.
I think in my second design I was much more aware of what was visually appealing and eye catching then my first design. My first design was simple and clean but was to the point of being boring to look at, my second design is also simple and clean however it has a lot more character and is much more interesting to look at. I think what made my second design a lot better was that it was a decontructavist project. If it was just an open design project the two designs would probably look a lot more similar. I usually go with the first type of design by default but having the decontructavist assignment made me create an ad I enjoy a lot more.
