Doctor of Medicine – College of Medicine
My name is Yousef Ajjour, and I am a second year MD student and the founder of the student research community initiative. My idea was born from a simple observation that many students are motivated to pursue research but don’t always know where to start or who to approach. Through this observation I started this initiative and my involvement with the PAL team, I aim to create an accessible and organized pathway that connects students with research supervisors and opportunities. I strongly believe as a researcher myself that early exposure to research not only strengthens academic skills but also builds leadership, accountability, confidence, curiosity, innovation, and collaboration. I’m excited to be part of a team that values peer support and student growth.
The GMU Student Research Community Initiative was created to support students who are motivated to pursue research but may not always know where to begin or who to approach.
The initiative aims to provide an accessible and organized pathway that connects students with research supervisors, mentorship, and available opportunities.
Early exposure to research strengthens academic development while also building key professional skills such as leadership, accountability, confidence, curiosity, innovation, and collaboration.
This initiative reflects GMU’s/PAL's commitment to peer support, student growth, and meaningful academic engagement.
