Parents Just Don't Understand* (Student Version) the italicized portion originates from the song written by Pete Harris, Will Smith, Jeffrey Townes
By J. D.
You know parents are the same no matter the time or place
They dont understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes
So to you other kids all across the land
there's no need to argue, parents just don't understand...
My ole man preach about knocking on doors
So, why he be busting in my room for
On the phone with a shorty, so I won't be lonely
Without a doubt he will be in here shortly
Crashing the mood, when he leaves, he leaves the light on
He doesn't even close the door back, he doesn't respect his son
Sometimes I feel that they really don't care enough
If I walked in on them, you know they would spazz, bruh!
One more thing before I end my rant
When I move out, don't act like I can't
I gotta be free, don't worry about me
I'll get my own place, I'll won't give them a key
So, I pull off at high speed
Going to pick up what I need
We riding top down with the music blasting
Then out of nowhere, blue lights flashing
We try to lose him and make some turns
Moving so fast, I can smell the tires burn
12 gets lost and we get away
The lord was with us this day
The cops are still looking and the streets are still hot
I have to leave the car parked so we don't get caught
I lock it up and head down the side street
We had to head to crib, we had to make it on our feet
We made it home
Our time was gone
I had to call her an Uber to get back on
Man, now my night was blown.

Short Story
Escaping the Enemy

One stormy night, Taliyah, Jamarian, Jaliyah, and Talasia decide to hang out. They are all very close, they go to school together and hang out almost every weekend. Earlier that day, Jamarian texted the group chat and said he had an idea...

Jamarian > We should go to a party at The Cathedral in Atlanta, Georgia
They decide to go to The Cathedral that same night. It is a secret exclusive party that somebody throws every month. Once they got there, Talasia pointed out that she had an iffy feeling about The Cathedral, and Taliyah agreed. Jamarian says, “We’ll just look inside and then leave”.
They walked inside The Cathedral, and the door slammed and locked behind them. Directly ahead of them was a room with an eerie purple glow. They walked inside the next room and Jaliyah said, “OH Snap, this looks lit!” There's drink, there are lights, and the room is packed and it's about 500 people. The DJ is playing “California Breeze,” there are 20 VIP stations, Lil Durk is here, Cardi B is here, and Polo G is here. The energy is overwhelming.
A boy walks over to Jaliyah leans in and whispers in her ear and she starts to giggle. The boy is 6’5, has curly hair, and keeps his hood on. Jamarian finds this suspicious because it's baking in the room. After some time, the boy and Jaliyah get touchy, and he grabs and leads her to another room. Jamarian notices the tattoos on his forearm as they walk away, and he goes to find all the others.
He finds Talasia first, but she's drinking, smoking, and partying, she is constantly moving, and he can’t get to her.
The next person Jamarian sees is Taliyah and she's in the corner as if she's ready to go. He motions to her to come with him. He looks to go back to get Talasia and he sees her moving upstairs. He sifts up the crowded staircase onto the packed hallway. It looks as if there are about 20 other rooms on this floor. He can't find her, and Jamarian gets scared. He turns around to talk to Taliyah and now she’s gone.
Taliyah left the party to clear her head. She is altered which is making her uncomfortable. The stuff was stronger than she thought. When Taliyah got outside, she threw up, wiped her mouth, and looked for her phone to call Jamarian. She couldn’t find her phone. The anxiety started to build up when her feet started hurting. She took off the heels and sat down on a bench outside.
Talasia was with Jamarian but ended up getting snatched a few moments after we made it to the top of the stairs. When she opened her eyes, she was blindfolded and with Jaliyah. Talasia heard Jaliyah crying but she didn’t call out to her. She assumed she was blindfolded. Her feet were chained to a chair, and her hands were handcuffed, she tried to escape, but Talasia felt a deep voice say, “Stop trying it's not going to work”.
Jamarian thought to himself, “one minute I was with everybody, now they're all gone”. “I don’t know what to do.” He saw Taliyah from a window. He hurried to the bench where she was sitting. They talked about everything that has happened so far. He was relieved to find her, and she was relieved that he found her. It's funny how some people avoid trouble.
Jamarian and Taliyah begin to search every room they can find. Calling out their names won’t work because the music is too loud. Finally, they find a locked door.
Jamarian and Taliyah bust inside the room using a super heavy lamp; the girls are happy because they thought they were never going to see them again. Jamarian ran over to me and said, “Jaliyah are you okay?” “I'm going to get you and Jalasia out of here and leave”. The guy that tied them up runs out of the shadow to stop Jamarian. He didn’t know that Taliyah was a fighter. She hip-checked him and he hit the floor out cold.
They had been tied up for about an hour. We grab our phones from a desk in the room. The batteries had been removed, but the sim cards were still in the phones.
We sprinted down the steps and then we kept running until we got outside, and Jamarian called the cops.
Once the crew were in the car, the cops showed up. They arrived about 10 minutes after we made it to the car and arrested a gang of people for human trafficking.
