"First Chapter Friday" is an in-class activity where our teacher shares the first chapter of a book with us. Sometimes, she reads it aloud herself. Other times, we listen to the first chapter in an audiobook or we watch a read aloud on You Tube. After we read, we write the book's title and author on our "First Chapter Friday" tracking sheet and add a brief summary (the "gist"). Then, we rate the book. If we really love it, our teacher encourages us to add it to our "TBR" (To Be Read) list.

To hold us accountable for being good listeners and tuning our brains in during the read aloud, we are required to complete an option from our First Chapter Friday Menu. This gives us a chance to share what we heard, what we thought, and to be creative either digitally or on paper!
