THE BAHAMAS portion- The Bahamas is in a vulnerable environment that is prone to natural disasters. Since Hurricane Dorian’s tragic landfall on nearby Grand Bahamas and Abaco Island, Nassau has experienced an influx of individuals as survivors seek refuge. The large Haitian population in the Bahamas suffers discrimination. This all happened right before COVID took the world by storm. Since then, the Bahamas became more vulnerable due to the destruction of local infrastructure and homes. This created a lack of access to clean water, toilets, and other resources that increases the community’s risk for diseases.
ESTIMATED Total Cost: Program cost $2100+ Flight (huge variability on flights, ranging prices from $600-$1100)– Price estimate includes housing, clean water, and transportation once in-country, Clinic supplies, medications for patients, vaccines, most meals, travel insurance and flight. Fundraising training and mentorship will be provided.
COVID vaccine and travel insurance with COVID coverage is required
Poverty and access to healthcare has been impacted greatly around the world. Countries that rely on tourism have been hit hard. Here is a video for consideration on the face of tourism versus local impact on poverty in The Bahamas. https://youtu.be/m2F7KoLDqUA
