When I was working at a grocery store, I always knew that I wanted to go into finance someday. But that career track requires math, lots and lots of math. The problem was I was nowhere near a college level for it. Apparently I had forgotten a lot more than I had realized since high school. So I sought to change that. With a year to go before school started, I spent nights, weekends, and holidays over the next six months getting caught up. After I quit my job, I devoted full time to studying for the next few months. I saved myself many semesters of taking catch up courses.
In a little under 2 1/2 years I wracked up 67 transferable units after completing an additional 7 units of catch up courses. That includes the final semester where I only had to take 7 units! During that time:
I got a 4.0 GPA for every semester (except for two).
Won merit based scholarships for two years running.
Won countless other awards and recognition's.
Was recommended to be a tutor on campus.
Clearly I was a man on a mission.
My first perfect score on a math test. If you told me as a kid that I would get a perfect 100 on anything math related, I wouldn't have believed you. It wouldn't be the last time either.
Here I kept going non stop to get my Bachelors Degree. All the while I've overcome numerous challenges like:
Getting my laptop stolen.
Having to redo two projects that were on it (See above).
Successfully finishing the spring semester after the Pandemic hit.
Staying motivated to complete the rest of my degree online.
Completing and presenting a student research project.
Networking with classmates and friends.
I was able to squeeze a little bit of fun in as well.
