My wife and I were invited to go on an overnight camping trip to a faraway beach in the Philippines in a place called, Pananacpan,Sta-Ana,Cagayan, going through Santa Anna and about 2 hrs east through very challenging mountainous roads and even crossing 2 creeks about 2 car lengths wide.
So we went, spent the day and as it turned out, because there was 2 other truck loads of Filipinos in the group for a total of 42 people, the beach admin said it costs 150 per head to stay the night and the area that that covered was not real good. So the leader decided we should go back to an area in Santa Anna that was free.
So we ended up driving back the 2 hrs of mountains to a local beach. We arrived just before dusk, and they started setting up the generator, Karaoke, cooking spot etc.
We got our tents set up and my wife asked me if I wanted to go in the water and rinse off the days sweat! I hesitated, because I am not used to bathing in salt water and believe me, it was salty. So we got ready and went in the water.
I decided to let my glasses hand on the retainer string that holds your glasses from flying off your face in a sudden movement situation. We walked in the water and because it was rough with pebble sized rock, I decided to sit down and so I did. The surf was strong enough to pick me up and push me backwards towards the beach and I decided I would be quick and get out.
Well, little did I realize what was about to happen. I got up out of the water, my wife behind me, and she now tells me at least 2 others nearby, and I made my way to the van about 40 or 50 meters from the beach straight ahead and up an incline. When I got to the back of the van which faced away from the beach, I opened the back and decided I would hang our shower curtains and rinse off with a 5 or 6 liter bottle of fresh water I had brought from home.
I reached down to remove my glasses and lo and behold, the only thing left around my neck was the retainer rope. I panicked! I then suddenly looked down to see if my glasses were near. No such luck. I then alerted my wife who had walked up the hill with me thru the sand and weeds to the problem.
We then, got a flash light, used our phone lights, and I started back down the hill trying to re-trace my steps looking for my glasses. As soon as we got closer to some others they found out I had lost my glasses and began helping us in the search. We had 2 others helping me and my wife look. We slowly walked back towards the beach, I was developing thoughts in my mind as to when I felt them bump against my chest as I was walking, and I was sure I felt them after I got out of the water. During the time of looking, I asked God to give me a miracle at least twice to find my glasses and my wife told me she had been praying about it too.
The four of us spent at least 15 minutes looking and as it was dark, it seemed hopeless. I was close to the water when I finally gave up and I turned around and took about 4 steps and suddenly heard this faint voice, "sir," then it was a bit louder saying "sir", as I turned towards the sound, I see a little boy with dark hair about .maybe 10 years old, and he says "sir, are these yours?" He then holds out my glasses!
I was shocked! He had no light of any kind in his hand, and I thought I noticed maybe another child lagging behind him, but it was quite dark and only off in the distance could I see to places where some people sat on the beach with some kind of light. I answered the boy and said yes, those are mine, where did you find them?
He did not answer, at that point I tried to get my wife's attention but she said she heard me, but was changing at the van. I was given the glasses and said, just wait? I told him I would be right back, I walked about 5 more steps to our tent where I knew my wife had put her money and grabbed a 100pesos bill. I turned around and walked back to him and said thank you so much. I was ecstatic I had my glasses again and they were not damaged at all!
Hebrews 13:2
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
You can see above how wide the beach is. And the first picture shows the terrain around the tents.
I didn't think to watch which direction the boy went after that, And he had no light so when I turned back around he faded into the dark. A little later my wife and I walked to the two places I saw the people with lights close-by and asked if seen any kids, they had not seen any kids etc. I had to think about what happened and in my mind I could not come up with a logical conclusion!
Had the boy been on the beach when I dropped the glasses? How could he have found them if he had no light with him? I didn't see any kids near me when I was walking back to the van the first time, as I usually notice people around me.
I was just in a mystified place in my attitude and the curiosity would hound me for the next few hours. After much though and meditation, I came to the conclusion that because of my sincere prayers to find my glasses and probably my wife's similar prayers, God decided to send an Angel to pickup my glasses because he would know right where they were, and send that little angel boy to give them to me.
There are no other logical conclusions to this miracle scenario!
