Your academic advisor or link tutor will support you during placement by making contact with you. This may vary slightly between courses, but you should receive a contact either telephone call, teams chat or face -to- face visit and in some cases this may be at the midway point and end of placement. Your academic contact will discuss the support you are receiving on placement, discuss your placement objectives and progress.
If any concerns are raised about your performance such as a risk of failing the placement then you will receive additional support.
You should contact your academic advisor if you have queries about the placement process or concerns that you would like to raise. If you have any concerns about your placement experience, please do not wait until you are contacted by your academic advisor, raise your concerns as early as you can so they can be managed. Contact your academic advisor in the first instance.
If your academic advisor if out of the office, they will normally signpost you to another contact on their out of office reply. If you cannot get hold of your academic advisor because they are teaching or in meetings and you need to speak to someone urgently, then you can escalate this by contacting your professional placement lead contact and/or DA course leader.
Please note that if you have concerns regarding your placement or educator then you should also have a contact within the organisation that you can also go to, (this is usually the placement learner facilitator).
If you require pastoral support or guidance around break in learning, deferral processes then you should contact Hallam Help to speak with a student support advisor: https://www.shu.ac.uk/myhallam/help-and-support

If you have a disability, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty you can compete an assessment with the disability support team to receive a learning contract. If you have a learning contract this will be considered by the placement team during the allocation process, however if you require any reasonable adjustments to be put in place during placement you will need to disclose this with your practice educator and discuss with your academic advisor and or course leader. It is an apprentice's responsibility to disclose your disability and learning contract, the university cannot share this information. In some situations an occupational health assessment (through SHU) may be required prior to going out on placement. If you have a new or worsening health condition that wasn't disclosed at the start of the course you will need to inform the placement team.
If you need support around your learning contract or reasonable adjustments then you can contact disabled student support
